Just hit a dog

Was reading a similar story on another forum recently where the driver managed to claim for the damage to their vehicle from the pet insurance.

Whilst its not nice that an innocent animal is injured, its not your fault and you have every right to be pissed. I would be the same.

Remember to include the cost of their property in the article as the DM always do.

New laws mean that in public, a dog should ALWAYS be on a lead. Never allowed off lead in public. Changed last year I think, just been on dog training classes and the first class was about law and responsibility.
 
Lucky you didn't see the dog, you may have swerved and hit a oncoming vehicle or a pedestrian. i have 2 dogs and never let them off the lead away from my property. To many people get themselves a pet and don't give a fig about responsibilities. hope you recover your losses from dog owners insurance. that's if you managed to get details.

However, some people around here take that to mean an 15ft extendable lead is okay... completely ignoring the fact that they also extend when the dog runs perpendicular to the pavement. Countless times I've seen a couple walking their dog, chatting to each other, and the dog has been merrily trotting down the middle of the road - still on the bleeding extendable lead.

Feel sorry for the dog, being owned by such muppets.

And don't even get me started on the two people in my village who actually walk down the middle of the roads.... and, no, I'm not joking.
 
You're right, it isn't the dogs fault.

Regarding walking down the road, they have a right to do it - the only roads pedestrians must not use are motorways. In the middle might be stupid but if you can see them in good time you'll not get away with mowing them down :wink:

This lot I saw yesterday obviously missed the law change

I'm just glad noe of them saw a rabbit or a fox, could have been carnage.

yes you need to report it, as it was poor defenceless doggie, even if it was not under control by its owners.

I hope you've their name and address to put in a claim for a repair to your poor defenceless Z4 :thumbsup:
 
Great thread and one that shows people should read before they post. :roll:

Easy issue to deal with. Dogs owners are at fault and the car has been damaged. I would be making a claim off the owners personally.

I am a dog and car lover before anyone starts.

Years ago I was driving my van in Newbury. I was in a 30 zone and was not speeding, but I did have a bloody dimlo truck driver right on my rear bumper, I see an unmanned dog on the footpath and keep an eye on it, the bloody dog bolts just as I get level and shoots straight in front of me, I brake hard and stop..waiting for the rear of my van to vanish into the truck, but he managed to stop too.
Poor old dog had gone under the wheels and it's leg was hanging off, a local lad came over and we put the dog in the van and went to a local vet's where I left details and then headed for my office. About half an hour later I get a phone call from the local Police stn, asking if I had run over a dog and why I had not reported it !!, I said I was in shock and had to calm my nerves with a cuppa first.
I had to go to the Police stn and report it, also got a call from the owner (via the vets) having a go at me !!!
WTF, your dog could have got me mangled, I take your dog to the vets and you have a go at me ???
Yes you must report hitting a dog

My old dog was never off the lead anywhere near roads even though he was very well behaved but he did have that glint in his eye when he seen another dog or cat and if he wasnt on the lead he would have bolted.
