Just got my 'new' 2.5i MSport

Just had my 56-plate 2.5i MSport delivered. I've been driving a 2.5i SE (2004) for the last three years, which was the best car I've ever had - had to get another one!

This one is gorgeous in light silver with red leather sport seats and MSport wheels - i'll post pics soon! It also has the MFSW buttons which I didn't in the old one. The only things I'm missing are the auto-lights-on and auto wipers...guess I'll have to get used to that!

Also, I just went to try and install my cruise control stalk (a 5 min job on the old one!) to find no wiring pre-installed. Looks a lot more complicated this time...

Congratulations on the new purchase!

Wiring for cruise control not present on models on Post Oct '04 builds. The instructions that came with mine are here...

dpms2, congratZ on the new ride.

BTW ...there's a ritual that we demand of all new owners.

Oh yes? What's that? I'm intrigued! Do I really count as a new owner, given that I've been a Z4ist since 2004?

Thanks for the info on the cruise control :D

It still amazes me why anybody would want cruise control on a sports car/ roadster ?..i have it on mine and used it once to see if it worked. Isnt it a bit pointless ? :P

It is great on a long motorway trip, and also through roadworks that have those pesky average speed cameras on them...

I see what your saying, but i never feel in control of the car with it on, i have had it on a few of my cars and never used it. I would never spec it if buying new.

Each to their own i suppose. Now as for heated seats, totally fantastic !

Agree totally.

Pick up my switch to retrofit it Thursday. Miss it so much compared to the X5 especially on long runs to the South and back

Yes, but an X5 is not a 2 seater sports roadster. I agree with having CC on such a car like an X5. Were not in america, next you will be saying you have an automatic

Are you kidding! There is rarely a drive that I go on that I'm not using my cruise! However, I live in the land of traffic cameras. They're are positioned EVERY mile on the freeway near my house and they give out tickets like candy! The speed limit is 65mph and the cameras are set to 76mph. You all know how easy it is to accelerate or lose track of how fast your going in our z's. So if you lose track of your speed for even a few seconds here, you can be goind over 76 and WILL get a ticket. Cruise control is my savior!!!!

Same thing on the regular rodes. The cops are always out where I live plus the lights are timed for the speed limit. So even in between lights, I blast up to speed, set the cruise and ENJOY THE RIDE FROM THERE!!! :driving:

What I really want is an adjustable speed limiter. Just like the top speed limiter but adjustable on the fly. This way I can set a top speed for the freeway (and just enjoy my foot on the gas from there). So in traffic, I can blast around the person doing 55 and not worry about going over.

I'm not sure I see the 'X5 is not a 2 seater sports roadster' as relevant. Both are quick, very quick, easy to exceed speed limits, difficult to control to average speed camera section without focus in and if alone then the Z is my choice for longer trips.

Travelling to the South coast at the weekend I joined the M6T set cruise control at (well let's say dead on 70) and did not touch it again for 70 miles. Joined the A34 South and resumed speed for another 80 miles, adjusting it only a few times for traffic and the long 50mph sections. No tickets, no aching ancle from 2 hours + driving, etc.

Give me the open windy road and hell you can chuck it away - paddle shift for me. :)

If you find it difficult to hold your foot at a certain speed through speed cameras then you are sadly lacking in the driving skills department me thinks. CC is naff, end of.

easty027 that statement is just plain stupid and somewhat against the spirit of the board in personal insult, albeit no doubt positioned as a joke.

The majority of posters on this and previous threads like it, many retrofit it. You don't - just personal choice.

Your right, it is personal choice, hence why I wrote that in my previous post ! Didn’t realise you where soooooooooo sensitive !

:poke:

Dont think anyone said that they couldnt keep a certain speed. CC just makes it easier to set your speed and free up your other senses for anything else that is going on around you. As for not being in full control, the CC system in the Z4 can be turned off in .... 4 different ways and it also doesnt stop you from accelerating if needed so I dont see that argument.

but as cj10 said its a personal choice :)

Not really a case of 'sensitive' - the initial comment had no place or value so a simple 'sorry' for a stupid comment would have sufficed, not a further comment on sensitivity and 'poke'

Agreed on the CC. In a few weeks time, I will be going to Scotland and will be setting it to the non-ticket speed limit and spend all my time playing with the iPod and other toys in the car. As per UK government, as long as you don't speed you are a safe driver so you don't need to look around you.

I don't use it on cruises, but on the motorway journeys it is great
