Just got my E89, looking at non RFT

So, I can see many posts recommending ditching the Run flats.

I currently have:

Rear 255/30/R19 91Y
Front 225/35/R19.

I contacted my local tyre fitter about recommending a good value tyre and a very helpful lady quoted me for some Falken FK510 (£125 front and £99 rear, fully fitted inc balancing) so a total of £448. She suggested avoiding a hard compound and said these tyres may see upto 25k miles of usage. To give me an idea of budget tyres she also quoted for some Accelera tyres totaling £262 but had 8k miles usage.

She too recommended ditching the run flats and also lowring the PSI slightly to improve the ride

Does anyone have the Falkens that can provide some feedback please or any other comments ?

I have also contacted my insurer who said there was no issue with them changing the tyres to non RF.

Finally, do most poeple try and sell their RF on? Mine have plenty of tread on them but I saw a post the other day where they kept them in case they sold them onto a dealer (as some dealers do not like having non sec non RF!).

Thanks

Falken rep has been poor until these latest Azenis FK510 tyres were released , seemingly upped their game massively so if they land in your pricepoint id give them a go , i would also give consideration to switching your rear sizes to 245 35 or 255 35 as opposed to the 255 30 :? they offer little in way of comfort or wheel protection
For comparison your £450 should also get you a set of new 225 35 19 / 255 35 19 in Vredestein Vorti or Uniroyal Rainsport 3 which have both been well received on forum cars .
Just for ref the set of Falken you have been quoted for are available from Tyreleader for £385 delivered to your door so your quote all in fitted + balanced isn't that bad

I used to run Falken 452`s on my E85, I thought they were really good, good grip and fairly quiet, but 15k top out of them, I am currently running goodyear F1`s on my E89 (19") and love them

Ive tried a few sets of wheels with Falkens on , my biggest criticism of them would be narrow fitting so little rim protection & can look undersized unless car is lowered & any below 5-6mm seem to harden plus as the mm's dropped so did the grip :? especially in the wet

Totally agree with the rim protection, but I must say I never experienced drop off from them, but maybe I not as a spirited driver as some :D

In fact, what size tyre could I fit on my current 19' wheels which would provide the most 'comfort' ?

I fitted 235/35/19 & 255/35/19 to my 35i. Very comfortable, light years from the Bridgestone RFs.

I got a 2nd quote for 225 35 19 / 255 30 19 which was a similar price.
When I then enquired about trying 255/35/19 on the rear he suggested not doing this if it was not the manufacturers spec and going from 30 to 35 would make a difference (also saying may effect recorded speed. I did state the make/model of car)
Not sure what to make of this as there are loads of threads on here trying different sizes but perhaps he was being cautious?
Sorry, I thought choosing the car was hard enough but tyres even more so!

Thanks

Go for a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, the best summer tyre on the market at the moment.

Blackcircles usually do good deals.

You could always put details in here:- https://www.willtheyfit.com/

I know you aren't so concerned about the fit, but it will also tell you how much different the speedo will read.

Just put a set of Goodyear F1 A3's on my E89 3.0i. Fantastic tyres, ride is a lot better, but the biggest difference is the reduction in road noise. Car also doesn't tram-line or skip about on the road compared to the run flats.

I've had Michelin PS4's before, but they're just too grippy, spoil the fun in many ways, can't play with the rear end the same, especially as the 30i doesn't have enough power to overwhelm the rear wheels. They are very good though, but so are the F1's on the road.

Hi, the higher profile tyre will effect the recorded speed. It will make it more accurate

What he said! I have just had Goodyear F1 A3s put on mine all road and the ride is so much nicer, still stiff suspension and less banging around the place - so far, so good!

I got all four fitted and balanced at Costco for just over £500.
