Just found a new feature on my car...anymore I dont know of?

Hey

Ok so completely stumbled across this by accident. Was waiting for a mate in the car park, and flashed my lights when he drove in (no key in ignition) to show I was there, and when I got the lights were on (full front/rear - not side lights). So I was thinking of God, the cars playing up, watched it for about 30 seconds and they went off.

I tried it again and it worked again, I guess it might be the 'coming home lights?' feature other cars have? Or is it a bug haha. Kinda pointless but still cool IMO.

(Mine's an 03 2.5i - if that makes a difference)

Are there any other neat things you can do?

Cheers

Tom

yeah, i also like this feature. i had my car almost a year i didnt know i had it. i think there is a post with a list of items such as this, if i can find it i will repost it..

I also use this "Follow me home" feature a lot.. its handy to be able to see the key slot for my front door at night!

Only wish the BMW would turn its lights on at night when the car is opened.. like some of the merc and VW's do.

Newer BMW's do this - the E89 does it if you have the light switch set at the Auto position. "Welcome lights" I think they are called. :)

Yes, a good feature the "coming home" lights. 8)

Another one is what is called something similar to "hill start" (or something), and it effectively maintains the handbrake function, even when you`ve removed the handbrake, when you`re starting off on a gradient. If you`ve not tried it, have a go and you`ll see what I mean (making sure there`s nobody stuck up your chuff, of course.... ), ie: stop on a gradient somewhere, handbrake on, then take it off, and note that the car remains where it is for a couple of seconds before it starts to roll back. Very helpful if the gradient is quite steep, as it saves you having to catch the car from rolling on the clutch/revs combo.......... 8)

I dont think you even need to put the handbrake on, just come to a stop, keep it in 1st, then when you release the foot brake it will stay there!

The car has a level in it. so if you are pointing downhill in first, the brake will not stay on. Also, if you are reversing up your drive the brake hold will help you while in reverse gear.
