To be honest it was the e89 back in 2009 that made me look at buying a Z... But the boot is useless with the roof down you'd be lucky to get a laptop bag in.
But that did lead me to the E85... And my subsequent car.
The e89 has warmed to me... And i do like the modern feel to them... However it wouldnt replace my current car due to its limited boot space.
If i get another convertible it will probably be a boxter now... And if i had the car for a third car i would consider the e89.

It's only when the roof is stowed that access is restricted. There's still quite a lot of room under the roof tray, it just means to get at it the roof has to be up. But after having an e89 for 4 1/2 years not once has this been a problem.
I do agree that the back end is its worst feature but it's not a shocker by any means. The front and side views/lines (in my opinion) are an improvement on the older models. But they are all lovely cars and all Z4's so why all the haters!?

For me the E86 is a fabulous looking car, never have been a fan of the E85 (sorry guys and gals) but then I didn't like the Z3 roadster but LOVE the coupe. E89 for me is best of both worlds a roadster when I need it and coupe the rest of the time.

Not heard on any reliability issues with the E89 especially the 35is and I haven't heard on any issues with the 1M which shares exactly the same engine. Problem wit forums is that people tend yo come on to find out about problems or to identify a 'problem' there's a fair few pages of issues people have had with E85's and E86's but you might find quite find a few people who've not had any thus far. NO car is without problems, 100% of cars will not be fault free. There is also the issue with how people treat, drive and maintain their vehicles and if you buy a second hand car, unless you know the owner you can't be 100-% sure that it was as we'll looked after as you would like to think.
I wouldn't criticise anyone else for their choice of vehicle. I need a 4WD drive for work - and it's quite fun to drive - I've always bought practical vehicles. The family car is cheap to run, practical and a bit more sprightly than I expected. And my daughter can learn to drive in it. But having recently acquired a Zed, I've got to say it's the best looking car I've ever seen, it's super fun to drive and my wife (the least petrol heady person I know) makes more use of it than me, and comments on the second glances the car attracts. Writing tonight, a gloomy, depressing wet night, it sits on the drive outside the window and lifts my spirits by just being there. How many cars have I owned that did that? None, chum. So god bless the guy that first drew those curves on a bit of paper (and the fellah that said 'I know of a 3 litre engine that'll do nicely with that...')
