Yes sir, I live in Montreal and drove my Z4 from here to California and back for a total of 8000 beautiful miles.
The best part of the trip was the highway 1 on the California coast where there are lots of twists elevations and so on......perfect place to have a road gripping sports car like the Z4, I only saw 5 other Z4 on the entire 1 month long trip.
No mechanical problems except for a broken cup holder which is under warranty also had a nail in rear tire, light came on and had it plugged, however when I got home to replace my tires the inside was badly worn, bad camber, so had it aligned.
I also drove my car on the Bonneville salt flats in Utah near Salt lake city, it was speed week, so could not go full tilt, but found many areas that were quiet to do plenty of 360 turns and 180's, drifting etc.....lot of fun, wash your car completely should you go as this is pure salt you are driving on and it gets everywhere underneath the car especially with a lot of wheel spin as I did. Good time to let my 11 year old son drive the car, great time.
Driving through the red woods in northern California was spectacular, makes you appreciate having a convertible going through beautiful country like this.
Nevada was down right hot, use lots of sun screen or keep your top up. My air conditioner was perfect in 115 F weather, set it to 70 and no worries.
I was able to boot it in New Mexico, where you can see far in the distance and there are no trees for cops to hide, had plenty of room after 126 miles an hour, very stable at these speeds. I was surprised that for some of the 12 hour days of driving that it was so darn comfortable, however I do have the add on arm rest from.......leather z that made driving much more comfortable, and is great extra storage for gum, cell phone change etc..... Great car on a great trip, but was very happy to come home and be back in Canada, nothing wrong with the US, but you know what they say, 'home sweet home'.
Telluride Colorado, was amazing, Grand Canyon is nice for a day unless you want to hike down and back up which is a 2 day affair.
Anyone else do a similar trip, which areas did you like?
Dustin

IMZ4N (So Cal resident) has loads of experience in California as well as all over the US. He is expected back home at the end of this week sometime and I'm sure he'll have plenty to write about.

hey wow. i will attempt one of these road trips soon. this just gets me motivated

BrossardZ4, nice pics and I also like the one you posted into competition taken on the saltflats...

THIS STUFF WAS REALLY COOL TO DRIVE ON, BECAUSE IT IS SALT AND SALT ABSORBS MOISTURE LIKE A SPONGE, SO YOU ACTUALLY HAVE A VERY GOOD STICKY GRIP KIND OF LIKE LIQUID RUBBER, AWESOME PLACE TO VISIT AND TO SEE THE LAND SPEED RECORDS TAKING PLACE.

Great trip - nice write-up!
Your son and you will never forget this trip! Good move letting him drive!
You have a good eye for photographing cars - finding the picture - keep taking many pics!
:oldman:
Best!

Looks a superb trip and what better way than in a Z4  Would love to visit the salt flats may be one day is the speed week same time each year ?

Awesome drive/trip.......sadly atm I can only think of a trip like this if I was back overseas.

Still awesome trip for ya.

Speed week is mostly in August and final runs some time in October, look up the website for more details. Anyone can go on the salt flats being public land, not much different than a public park, there are not even any gates there or any means of restricting traffic. The track itself is 80 feet wide by 10 miles long, this is maintained by the park to hold the speed records, however the rest of the area is also flat but more salt is on the ground, during speed week you need a permit etc....wait your turn....get a number....etc...to actually go all out on the track, but everywhere else where I went it is a big place, put it this way my son never drove a car and I felt completely comfortable to let him take it for a spin (literally) had there been some problem, I would have just turned off the engine and coasted to a stop.

Three of us from SoCal just made the trip to Homecoming 08 in Greer South Carolina. Over half the trip there was done on secondary roads ( no freeways ).There are many nice roads with twistys in them. Our trip was only 7300 miles total. We took the 8 out of San Diego to the 10 and then secondary roads all the way to Nashville, Tenn. I love road trips in the Z. Top down in the AM , top up during the heat of the day, and top down in the evenings.

We purchased our car 11/04 and have 128K on the car to date.

If someone comes to the SoCal area and would like lunch or dinner let me know you are coming and perhaps we can meet. I can always come up with a few good roads for you to try out. I'm out here, so use me!!!!!
