Just Done The Sound Generator Mod

6k is enough for me. Max power is at 5,800 if my memory serves me correct. How high do you guys rev yours?

In sport, if i stick my foot to the floor, the auto box will drop as low as it can go and then red line it in every gear, which I think is about 6,800 RPM (perhaps the M54 has a lower limiter than the S52 ?). It is a truly monumental feeling as the auto changes are so smooth and the acceleration so relentless that it feels like a rocket. To be honest though, I don't often push it past the soft stop on the accelerator pedal as it is brutal and only fit for hooning, so I think it changes in the powerband at about 6,000. But as I'd taken both bits of foam out I wanted the entire aural experience

You need to give it a go - it's not about the power delivery, it's about the freakin' maniacal howl of that straight 6 at the line 8)

I'll give her a proper kick in on Wednesday and report the results

mine had different foam in either end, light grey bulkhead and dark grey engine...

Yup, mine too. I did a wee squeeze test, and even though the engine one is smaller it is much firmer and denser.

While max power has a relationship to the optimal shift point for max acceleration, the optimal shift point is always past this point. For most cars, Zeds included, the optimal shift point is redline. Certain cars with close gearing and falling torque curves will optimally shift before redline because they can get equal or greater torque to the wheels by upshifting.

haha, and i must be the only tool on here who managed to pull the large grommet out of the bulk head, so when i keep reading about this mod that takes seconds i sheepishly think...naaahh i was blundering around like boris johnson in greggs trying to get the grommet back in!

Nope, you're not alone... I pulled the whole lot out too - I thought it was supposed to all come out :?

Takes a bit of wiggling to get back in, and whenever I have the bonnet up I have to satisfy my paranoia by checking it's still fitted

I did this mod, 15 seconds and no tools make this a no brainer to do. Removed the foam from the bulkhead side and the sound is perfect, and anyone who hasn't tried it, do it

Same, removed just the firewall side and it sounds great. No increase in noise when cruise, perfect.
