Once the car has been powered on you can switch off the ignition and remove the key, and the electric windows still work! I don't know if there is a time limit. If you open the drivers door it's game over. Not sure about the passenger door? I did try the roof and that didn't work.

So, not too exciting and something the rest of you probably know. Either it is not in the manual or I missed it. It is a revelation for me... well slightly more convenient... as since I've had the car if I notice a window slightly down, I'd curse (a mild swear) and then power back up to operate the windows

Just think what else you could have done with the time reading that :tumbleweed:

its a couple of mins IIRC

As for the auto close on lock, that was on the FL version I think...I have this on my 1er now, its a great feature - also as good is the auto window down for when we actually see our old friend the sun (its bloody snowing here again today - getting bored of that now...)

did you realise on the 1'er that you can turn the engine back on without the key in the dash, if you start the car as normal the turn it off with the button and remove the key as normal, if you depress the clutch/brake and press the start button within 10secs of removing the key the engine will start back up.
I found that particularly usefull on cold morning to warm the car up before setting off to work, as the key isnt in the car it means you can leave the engine running lock the doors and go back in the house

do your windows not close if you press and hold the key lock button?

Not when I tried before... when I've fiddled with the open / close buttons before it's sent things a bit funny. Think I'll have a 10mm spanner for the battery (to reset) and give these things another try.

Theres a problem though. I pull into the garage in my 2007 Z4 with the window down to make it easier to get out. I remove the key then press auto up and the window starts going up, now if i open the door the window stops and you cant press the auto up again unless you put the key back in the ignition. :headbang:

I have complete closure on my key but its abit slow.

Pressing the lock button doesn't work on Pre-FL (can't say for FL myself), but putting in the key in and turning to lock will put the windows up after a couple of seconds.

Pawn - it does this with the Pax door too! Really does my nut! Same with my old VAG cars too...

Stop car
Ignition off
"Crap, forgot the window" Put window up
Pax goes for their door handle
"Nooooo dont open the..." *Clunk* Window stops
"Doh!" Key back in ignition, continue window closing ;)

Really need to setup my car with NCS Expert to do this remotely!! It happens to me once a week atleast!

Yeah I thought all cars had this feature... basically when the interior lights dim off after the engine is off thats when the windows will no longer respond.

I was also under the impression that auto close was on the FL, however after picking up my car it doesnt do it :(

Will need to pay a visit to a place with an autologic - to get that and the triple indicators working.

Peddy, good shout, would have been very useful working in the garage last weekend. I always forget I can do that for just the windows :(

Ed, likewise, I'm going see about setting the electrics to be a little more user friendly. Although that's at the bottom of the list! Probably six months away yet.

Did you know the radio works without turning on the car? You can also view the odometer mileage by pushing the reset button while the car is off. :D

I imagine most people know this, but just in case....

fun fact for you...

but serisouly did not kno about the 1 series having that engine start after 10 seconds without key in thingy!!
