Here in Pennsylvania we have a yearly safety inspection and in the county I live in that also includes an emissions inspection.
The safety inspection is basically tire tread depth, brake pad thickness, suspension components tightness/serviceability, all lights work, horn, wipers, leak free exhaust, no broken or missing glass. The emissions inspection is, no check engine light and they plug into the OBD and take some kind of readings...$70 USD later you are out the door for another year.
In neighboring Ohio (and some other states) there is no safety or emission inspection. You would not believe some of the cars from Ohio we see over here. I live only 11 miles from Ohio and lots of Ohioans come over to shop at our Walmart as we have no sales tax on food or clothing. Turn about is fair play though as I often travel the 11 miles to buy gasoline as their per gallon price is often in the $0.50 per gallon range less than PA.
Anyway from what I gather reading posts, it seems the MOT is far stricter than our safety inspection. How often do you have to do the MOT, how much does one cost if all is OK?
