Hi, thanks for reading, My mother has just bought a 05 z4 for £6500 with 73,000 its a 2.0 se I wish I was there when she bought it because she could of got a facelift model for about the same price anyway, I think the car has a problem the accelerator pedal is very soft and you seem to have to push the pedal a fair way down before the clutch bites ( I drive a 520d e60 09) and when you put your foot down if in second gear it does not instantly pull away there seems to be quite a delay before it picks up and to be totally honest I think it is very slow, she had a mg tf 1.6 before ( a crap built car) however that car at 10yrs old I think accelerates quicker and is faster than this 2.0. Am I expecting too much from a 8yr old 2.0 z4 or is it well know that this model is slow anyway and there is a common nod that there is a lag with the z4 or do you think there's something wrong and it could be that I am used to driving my car however my 520 d is definitely faster. Thanks for your replys any info would be appreciated as I don't want to say anything and get her worried or take the shine off her new car

Try the throttle reset

520d may "feel" faster due to turbo diesel torque ( although it will only be there in bursts 8) )
A 2.0 petrol BMW will also have 15/20% less BHP than your 5 series
Have you driven the car & used the whole rev range ?

Hi mate, yhea I gave it a good blast last night and it's the first time I have driven a z4 but have had over the last 10 yrs.' e46 2.0, e39 2.0i sport, and now my current one and love bmw's however I am completely underwhelmed with this motor knowing bmw's I thought this z4 would be instantly responsive and quick when you touch the throttle and it just isn't but it is 8yrs old so.....however it does stick to the road like s!*t to a blanket good handling, she bought it from a good car lot with over a 250 cars on it I am kind of worried about it do any of you fellows know how much a bmw diagnostic report is cheers

Hi and welcome.
Why don't you go and 'test drive' another similar model?
I'm sure if you do a search you will be able to find a similar one in a garage local-ish to compare.

Air mass or cam sensor can cause lack of performance...

Diag check is your first port of call....

thanks for all replies, Believe or not the diag report came back all clear but the adjuster on the throttle pedal needed readjusting? Must of just been me sorry! but thanks for replies
