Guys where do I look for the power steering faults on the forum? My steering cut out 3 times of the drive home but it's been fine all day today but the eng mgmt light stayed on instead today??????

Any ideas

I once had the same problem and discovered that one of the terminals was loose to the battery so every time I went over a bump it would cut out. Check that maybe?

I also had that problem but it wasn't intermitent, just stiffer (or should I say jerky) power assist than usual. Ended up replacing the original 8 year old battery and the problem never came back.

Sticky steering - is hat the common fault the yanks got their cars recalled for or do you mean age?

It doesn't really stick, steering light comes on and steering goes very heavy as though it not assisted?

Cheers

the fact that it does work some time means its not likely a mechanical fault. exactmax sounds like the most likely problem. does the power completely go or just feel like sports mode?? (thats if u know what sports mode feels like!!!)

The sticky steering issue never resulted in a recall. It was investigated and found to not be a serious safety defect, as the driver still had control of the vehicle, though requiring greater effort. Final Document. Some US owners were able to get the column replaced under warranty, never the less.

If you are getting an EML, it is unlikely sticky steering, the steering system has it's own error light. You next step should be to determine what codes the EML generated. I don't see how steering is related to engine management, but in these days of data buses, everything is connected.

OK not EML, missed your correction, sorry, will try to read more carefully.

Best to resolve the battery issue first, I suspect it will cure the steering issue as well.
