Just bought a Z4MR

Went to look at a Z4M which was close to me in Oxford a couple of weeks ago, as I wasn't sure my almost 6.5 frame would fit and if my back would be ok. At the time, the dealer really lowballed my old man on mums 2010 JCW Mini for a P/X on the Z4M.

We called the dealer today and over the phone he gave my dad the price he wanted, which was just over a grand more. Just been over there and done the deposit and I get to collect the car Sat, as they are putting a new MOT / Tax and Service on the car for me.

Can't wait to start driving the car and enjoying the sound of "that" M3 engine.



Plans for the car will be a hardtop. This is why I went for a black car (I've been wanting a blue one so badly), it's Carbon Black, which has a lot of blue to it's shade when I was up close. I will be wanting to eventually put the traditional Alpina style wheels on it, which I know it not to everyones taste.

I'm really looking forward to becoming active on the forums and meeting people at meets and shows next year!

- Tax, is he paying the £550 year's tax for you?
- Service, what is he doing, who is doing it....that's a whole separate thing, as a service on these is so variable on what needs doing.
-Alpina wheels on an M is a little strange, but each to their own.

The car has a full service history, either at BMW or a specialists. The service is most likely going to be the basic servicing. Here in Oxford, there is a good specialist known as Mark Purcell, who only does BMW's. He sorted out most of the problems with my old mans e46 M3 convertible. I will have him look after it for the next few years. There car also comes with a insurance backed warranty for 6 months.

The car has a full AA inspection and it was given a good bill of health.

When I was checking the car over again today, I realised the wheels look much better in person. I'm gutten my old man sold his mint CSL wheels a few months ago. I would consider getting some, but it's so popular to do, it's almost overdone.

With the Alpina wheels (traditional styles), I would need to look at a Z4 / Z4M with them on, but I was struggling to find anything. I don't see anything odd about an M car having them. Maybe because of my e30 background, I am such a fanboy for Alpina stuff. I was seriously considering getting an Alpina, but I just prefer the M's rear bumper and engine.


I'm going to take it easy for a while, as I've never driven anything with this much power in a RWD. My previous E30's helped me respect the wet and throttle. My Impreza P1 was AWD and it was so planted on the country roads around Oxford.

My Dad's M3 has a full stainless system installed by a previous owner. It was as loud as my Subaru Impreza P1, which had the typical JDM fanboy exhaust! I think pretty much all the S series engines sound great, but the bark the S54 had/has, is a very BMW thing.

The good thing about the car having the S54, is my dad will be able to get just as much enjoyment out of it as I will. I don't cover many miles in a year, about 3000 roughly, so I will need him to drive it when I am not able to with my back. I think what did most damage to my P1, was from it just being sat outside. At least this time my car will get my half of the garage to park into.

Indeed keep the rest of the car warm and dry. The engine, if maintained proberly is pretty bomb proof and loves miles.

Any pics of your P1. Bloke at work used to bring his in occasionally. Very purposfull looking car.

I've got some nice pics when it was at it's best condition. It was VERY heavily modified and because the engine was built for over 120bhp more than I had it set at, I was confident in it's reliability. By fav my most loved and enjoyed car.




Here is my P1 with my dads old E46 M3 Convertible

This is my old E30 Alpina C2 2.5 . It's rare even for an Alpina, as the 325i cam out just after this one was built. It had done over 225k mile!

Here you can see the factory fitted CSL front on my old mans M3. The spec on his M3 was crazy. It was an Individual in Velvet Blue, had the full sat nav system, cream leather, CSL Wheels, SMG, Electric Sports Seats. Aftermarket it had some stainless system installed, which was flipping loud, but in the summer with the roof down, with just Dad and me in the car Hooning, it sounded perfect. A company called "Mr Vanos" which build their own custom Vanos systems, had come down to our home and installed a better Vanos system,

It had the rear subframe all done by BMW, it was totally polly bushed and was looked after well by my dad. With him being a car valeter/detailer, he spent years sorting out the imperfections in the paint. It had been treated poorly by it's previous owner and it showed. Like all E46's, it just seemed to burst out in rust. This is what forced dad to sell, as the stress was not good for him, as he had just been diagnosed with cancer.

Looks lovely but that's a standard M3 front (you can clearly see the fog light which is not present on the CSL) and factory 19" wheels not CSLs :?
Did you post a photo of a different car or something?
OEM 19's (like it appears in you'dads' car?)

CSL 19's plus note the rather different CSL front end.


Anyway it's a wendy house model with the wrong gearbox so who cares :lol:

The one with my P1 was about 7 years ago and it was in the Winter, so he had the normal M3 wheels on.

On the front, there are the carbon fiber canards etc (Think it was a CSL?).

I didn't have any photos of Poppa's M3 as it usually looked. Just gone into his "office" and transferred some over to my laptop.

I told him time and time and time again not to both getting the soft top, but he likes to pose (his words). The thing is, the colour combonation was just sooooo epic that it was a no brainer. He likes Estoril Blue , but they were common as muck and everyone tries to get the babyshite yellow, as it's rare. The colour of his, I've seen on two other BMW's. One was an late Compact and the other was on an Alpina B3 3.3 Coupe

Genuine CSL 'flippers' will not fit onto the regular m3 bumper as your father's car has in the above pic.
Most certainly not 'factory fit'. Anyway, I'm sure you both enjoyed it
