I spent this afternoon pulling out the satin silver dash panels and changing them to carbon aluminium. The dash was relatively easy, but the door pulls were difficult needing the door cards to come off. At least I didn't break a single clip!

Haven't driven it yet to see if I have introduced any rattles. Tomorrow I will clean all the hard top seals and give them a treat of Krytox. That should hopefully banish all the noise the seals make with the roof up.

I also plan to have a look at the salmon relays to see if the contacts are worn. Probably wasteful to replace them if they are in good conditon.

I ran a full scan with Bimmerlink and got no errors, so that is also a good sign!

The general consensus is to replace those relays every 5years to avoid playing Russian roulette with the £3k roof motor :o

Mmmmm, for £32 I’d not be taking the risk. I’ve changed on both of mine straight away. Iirc the fault issue isn’t visible and it arises with no warning and makes the pump run constantly leading to it catching fire. There’s pictures on here somewhere of the consequences of that happening and it’s not a pretty sight.

OK. Thanks. I will change them! Though I suspect that this car being a Northern Ireland car hasn't seen much roof action given the weather's propensity for rain over here!

 I’m in Argyll so will have at least as p!shy weather as you if not worse

I have to say I’ve not seen any damage on 3 of the 4 I’ve changed the 4th one had a fair bit of pitting and build up on the internal pads and that’s what fuses together and gives constant power. BTW, I know bugger all about the intricacies of these just that Robbi says change every 5 years and that’s good enough for me
