i sometimes wonder if the government set out to deliberately make things more difficult & frustrating than they ever need to be
Looking to switch my private plate over to the Z from another vehicle i own so went online to download the form
(note this was after going into town specially to the main PO this morning to pick up said form to be told sorry "we aren't allowed them anymore you have to print them off at home :headbang: ) "

Anyhow up comes this service available from the DVLA website where from the 15th of May it can all be done online in minutes :)

So i fill in the necessary info RE my plate, postcode, V5 doc ref number & pay the £80 to get the unique number required to then assign the plate to the chosen vehicle , the Z .
Proceed with all info as requested & press to confirm whereupon i'm greeted with

SORRY WE CANNOT PROCEED WITH THIS REQUEST

& no phone lines open until Monday ,

Its utter 5hite !! There are no instructions to say change plates over imediately or wait until new logbook arrives :?

That's the problem with 'more efficient' (read 'cheaper') systems - no one there to help sort out issues.

I hate such systems - they seem to take longer rather than be more efficient and they are soul destroying.

Give me someone who has a working knowledge of a system - that knows what the problems are and how to overcome them - and that's not always the case these days. . . . .

Customer services - (read targets set to reach) - dreadful.

That's why I always make a point of following up good service

Hay ho - off my high horse. :x

:driving:

I did it on the 19 March this year at the garage where my wife was collecting her new car.Took all of 10 mins and the plates were changed,so it does work-----------sometimes!

So not sure the brains of the latest online move have actually hought this through .
Received email shortly after they took payment & in bold letters across the top it states

Vehicle registration YAW ??Y should now be replaced with HG?? ASO

Just how do i get plates made up for the HG?? ASO when i have no logbook, insurance or MOT in that registration :?

I don't think you need the documentation any more you can just get them made up.Take the email along to show them. It's all been made so easy now.

ebay, show plates :D

This^^^

There are any number of number plate manufacturers on EBay who don't require any documentation.

Quick service too - mine were ordered one day and came two days later.

I can sort some plates on Monday no probs , my sister works at a large vehicle repair shop
The vehicle the plates are coming off is reverting to its original number which i don't have the plates for
The private plates i do have so theyre no hassle

Ouch!

So after 15mins on the phone to DVLA its would appear i have to proceed with the 2nd stage via post to override the computer system :headbang: "early glitches that need ironing out" he said :x
Apparently if the car receiving the private number has had a period of unauthorised lapsed RFL the computer is set up to fail any request to assign a different number , in my case a month tax was missing from years back & nothing i have to be concerned about :?

if it was a business you was dealing with you'd just tell them to stick it and you'd go elsewhere
