Just avoided mirror fail

Within 20seconds of driving off, i noticed the view in my mirror was 'bouncy' so pulled over, window down, touched it and was held on by a thread! A little pull and its off. Luckily it didnt do this while driving, as others have had and scratch body work, not to mention break the glass.

So, do i use numberplate tape or expoxy type stuff to put it back on? As they're heated, i dont want the heat to affect them and come loose again. I have some bonding no more nails stuff i used to bond the headlights...?

This 'backer' isnt solid, if you poke it, it flexes, should i try to remove this first? Whats behind, how does the mirror glass usually afix?

Yikes. Sounds like checking these on a regular basis is advisable :o

I used epoxy on mine (araldite), stuck and heater still OK. Mine fell out with no warning (last one on the wife's car went bouncy first so managed to save that one).

I used mirror glue from Screwfix for one of mine about 2 years ago and it's still rock solid. Just glue it straight onto the rubber backing but don't overdo it with the glue and keep it away from the vertical line in the mirror as it will show through it. My mirror still defrosts perfectly.

Just did the same with the passengers side which, even though it wasn't shaking, wasn't being held on by much at all.

I used quite a bit of epoxy, didnt keep away from the line, too late now so will see how it looks after it dries.

I used No More Nails on mine and worked a treat!

Still stuck and had no signs its getting loose.

Sounds like you caught it in just the nick of time!

I noticed mine shaking like crazy few weeks ago on the mway. I parked it up and checked the forum, I just pulled a little and off it came.

Trip to B&Q.... Unibond Extreme...Job Done!!

Thanks to you guys on the foum..

SWMBO has just caught my passenger side mirror as we were driving along, guess it helped it's still blazing hot and the roof and windows were down, sounds like it's down the DIY shop tomorrow for some mirror /glass glue.
