I've just about decided to get rid of my Z4. Noticed that some inconsiderate piece of sh*t side-swiped it, which left scratches and paint marks on the driver's side door.

If you claimed, how would an insurance company deal with this claim? Would it ultimately be classed as your 'fault' because no third party could be found?

I'm interested because there are lots of policies out there that protect your NCD if if the damage is caused by an uninsured driver or by vandalism... but this kinds falls between the cracks. But there is definitely a crime there right? Driving away from the scene of an accident, no matter how small, is illegal.

The whole protected no claims is a con, they let you keep your no claims, but elevate the initial figure before the ncd is applied. it's better than having no protection, but you will definitely see an elevation in premium, even though NCD remains the same.

Sounds like you need to either move to a better neighborhood or find a better place to secure your car. Since you can afford a Z4 you can afford other nice cars. The issue seems to be where you are leaving it parked not the car itself. For instance mine is parked in a secure parking structure next to designated reserved spaces under tight lock and chain in the garage. At work its also at very secure underground reserved parking. For me I was never going to park the 35iS on the street and thus i pay my 190 a month to park my car and thats that.

Not much I can do when I live in Aberdeen City Centre. I highly doubt this happened while I was parked on the street in front of my flat. It most likely happened in shopping centre car park. I rarely drive to work and when I do it is parked in undercover work car park.

I'm like you and just can't live with the dinks so tend to have my cars smart repaired every couple of years, always had perfect results and they drive better afterwards, weird :?
