Jumpy Acceleration, now P1637 & P1417

Hi all

Just gone through 100,000 miles and she's playing up :( Car sat idle for two weeks or More then drove it and I would describe the acceleration as jumpy under heavy acceleration. Seemed to happen 3000rpm and above. Now warning lights though.

Car has maybe been driven 1 or 2 days per week over last couple of month, only 15 miles commute with same problem. Sat maybe two weeks without moving again, today drove it home with same symptoms. Popped sport button on see if it changed, accelerated and Christmas Tree Dash, all orange, EML, Engine Warning, Traction and ABS. Lost power although engineer continued running and I do not think went into limp mode. Could slowly accelerate. I pulled over, revs "pulsing" between 500 and 800 rpm. Turned off ignition and back and was ok again apart from the jumpy acceleration and just the Engine Management light remaining on.

Popped the Torque code reader in and getting P1637 Power Train, Throttle Valve Position Control, Control Deviation and P1417 Powertrain.

Taking it to someone with a more sophisticated code reader next week but in the mean time I would be grateful for any pointers towards what we should be looking for?

Thank you

Since you have the P1637 code Throttle Position Sensor it would most likely thats whats causing it the P1417 is probably just confirming the fault is in the power train. The EML if cleared will probably return if the fault is a hard fault with the TP sensor. Before throwing a replacement part at it ensure the battery is fully charged and clean the electrical connector on the TP sensor, see if that changes anything.
As to the other warning lights scan it for codes in relation to the ABS system and post your results. Could be due to low battery or wheel speed sensor(s) going bad.

Thank you for the reply colb. Cars has not been used in a few weeks as I havent had chance to get this sorted.

I've been searching real OEM and cant identify the TPS part number. Eurocarparts/autodoc return TPS for e85 but all saying not for E86.

Can anyone help please with the part number for the TPS?

Thank you

Hi all. I like to close out posts to assist others.

I didnt find the correct part number in the end. The errors were cleared and I drove the car a couple of weeks later and problem has disappeared. Running smoothly now. Garage has cleanee out the existing TPS as a precaution but all is very strange.

E86 Throttle body with sensor inbuilt here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HM5hpMNvQk
Autodoc part number search here, all rather expensive

Just check Real oem using your last 7 of your Vin Number to make sure its the right one for your car, the one I linked to is fitted to a number of models so you might pick up a good used one on ebay for less outlay.
