Juddering when moving off from standstill

what does this mean? is it a flywheel issue? its only in 1st gear from what I have noticed.

Are you in an auto? Mine does this slightly sometimes, I think it's only when it's cold. I took it in under warranty but they couldn't find anything wrong with it.

How long have you had the car? and have you had beemers before? Only asking becuase it may just be the effect of the CDV that you are noticing and if so its a relatively simple task to remove/bypass it

Its the clutch delay valve, and is designed to protect the car from americans

the juddering occurs while the clutch is depressed, when close to the biting point and when in first gear. is this a cdv issue or clutch/flywheel or something else?

Sounds like a warped clutch or fly to me.

The CDV just slows the clutch release slightly, it wouldn't/shouldn't cause juddering

Lots of talk about juddering on the forum over the years - that's why many make the CDV delete to try and avoid it happening. Me, I just squeeze a few more revs into my take offs and this seems to cure it.

Hope it's nothing more problematical.

Sounds like a premature sign of clutch failure to me. Try pull away in 3rd or 4th, car should stall.

Hmm, the 3litre is a pretty grunty engine so it probably will pull away in a higher gear than you'd imagine-it's not really proving anything though :?
As long as it doesn't slip it should still be ok, it could even be connected to the cold/damp weather affecting the friction material.

I make my girlfriend set off in second when she drives mine (2.5l) as she's downright dangerous in first gear so I would guess a 3.0l would set off in third ok

My 3.0si pulls away in third. Yes you need plenty of rpm, but it's doable. Only did it by accident & was actually impressed

It's not an early sign of clutch failure, it's mostl likely just a bit of deposit on the fly. What revs are you trying to pull off from? Mine tends to do it occasionally, it's cured by giving it a bit of a hoon, or using a few more revs. I've had the CDV taken out of mine a year or so and it still does it every so often - I'm really not fussed about it as the clutch never slips when in gear...
