No problem with joining to sell. If it's a dog / lemon, we'll let them know, if it's a decent car / part then we all benefit. Imposing a min of say 25 posts to somebody determined to sell their car won't integrate them into the community, they'll either leave and not bother, or post 25 lots of rubbish then put an advert up. Either way they're not in the community long term, but by imposing a minimum we might miss out on a good car.

Leave it be IMO

depends on what kind of forum you want us to have. most forums like M3cutters have minimum requirements, as does the mini torque and others.

The reason for these restrictions is so we don't get spam from people selling other things.

If it's a zed then great but put limits in place for the For Sale section and keep it simple.

Bing, I don't see any issue with it at all so voted 'no', much more bothered by the constant kitchen spam threads TBH.

No problem with it at all

It's all the bumping that annoys me, like your for sale thread bing.

To be fair, it wasn't me bumping the thread 99% of the time, and actually that very fact demonstrates the worth of the community on here. At least it was a reasonably good advert.

I thought I had an issue with it but there are some valid points made here that maybe its not such a bad thing after all. My issue was probably more to do with its a 'no cost advert' which, apart from Gumtree, is the only advertising space I think that is free. My vote goes to No. 2.

Community or click?

I would like to think of myself as an interested and infrequent contributor to the forum. However I have both bought and given free items to forum members. I do believe that if a minimum number of posts is applied all it will do is get a flurry of  or similar. Which does defeat the point of the thread hold. But if a new member were to Offer heated electric sports seats in perfect condition for £250 and a set of "black" roof down plastic covers for £30 then who am I to complain. In summary I enjoy reading many things about both the zed's and less about their drivers lives, but understand some people join for other reasons. I have not found in the last 2 and a half years these posts to be too intrusive. But have voted yes as the integrity of the members is built up over time unless you know the individual.

The 'clique' you refer to , if that's what it is, are all people whom I have met, spent quite a lot of time with, and consider to be friends. This community is the only way that could have happened. If you have a problem with that then fine, but you could simply have ignored it... and this thread isn't about your personal opinion of me.

The answer is simple. The forum needs a user control option allowing people to hide posts from anyone who hasn't made 25 previous posts.

In that way, those of us who don't care about a minimum limit would see everything, and those only want to see adverts from seasoned posters will get their wish.

Well I sort of started all this, me and my big mouth, you think I would learn at 72 years of age

It was just a comment I was making that people seem to join just to sell “their car” without even contributing. However we all know are zeds and we continue to see these sort of people signing up just to flog their prized possessions. The calibre of some of the adverts leaves me speechless, they are poorly written with a lack of any decent content to tempt a potential buyer, service history omitted along with where the car is located and above all no photos of the car, or if they do include some it might have been better if they hadn’t if you know what I mean.

I am sure we all do it, we add the usually comments like nice motor, GLWTS when really if we are honest we are thinking to ourselves, SERIOUSLY do they really want to sell this car.
Then we get the people that join and who have been loitering in the shadows and just never got around to joining. You can immediately tell from the standard and content of their adverts that this person knows their onions shall we say. Good quality photos and a well written advert detaining everything that a buyer might ask. That sort of advert would seriously get my attention if I was in the market to buy.

I have no problems with people just joining, we all have a choice, we can choose to ignore the bad adverts, just like we do with the fitted kitchen adverts and then grab ourselves a half decent zed from the good adverts :D

I was just making a comment

Happy days :driving:

BrianD, I honestly wasn't having a pop at you, I took it away from that thread to separate it as the topic does come up quite often and it seemed inappropriate to start a debate there... It just so happened that was the one that prompted the stream of consciousness that followed. I agree with everything you say by the way - maybe I should have titled the thread 'Quality of for sale ads by newbies' :D

No offence taken Bing :)

I think you should have somewhere between 25-50 posts before you can access the for sale threads,
That way genuine members get the benefit of buying or selling on the forum.

Don't agree with this at all. My first few posts (and I'm still a relative newbie) were to enquire about/ultimately buy a car and then buy some parts for it. Don't see why I'd need to have contributed 25-50 posts before being able to do so !

If people want to join to buy/sell, as long at the items are Z4 related, then it's all good...

Fair point, I'm guessing the starting point for a lot of members would be joining here to assist with their search.

no problem here, i'd see it as a benefit personally.

it's the internet, people can do what they want within reason....even ignore the search function...
