JL Audio C3-650 vs Hertz Mille MPK 165.3 Pro

Hey guys,

I'm adding some speakers to the rear cubby holes of my E85 Z4, running them from a Hertz HCP 2X amp

I have a budget of approx £250 for the speakers and have narrowed it down to the JL Audio C3-650 or the Hertz Mille MPK 165.3 Pro. Both are £225 and I can't fit anything bigger than 6.5" in the space. The volume behind is completely sealed and around 3-4 litres so quite small.

Does anybody have any experience of either?

Yep, got Hertz in mine, in the chubby holes. 6x9 in an outer enclosure, with the cubby behind as the box. The sound is OK, but the bass is non existent due to the minimal enclosure... plus with the sound being right behind you, I have the fader balance to +6 to the front component speakers. (6 up front, 3 either side).

Sounds a lot better than stuck though.

Interesting, I started off with Hertz HCX 690 6x9” but they are a fraction too large to go straight on a baffle plate hence the above options. Have you got a picture of your box install? Also, where did you take your audio feed from?

Quite a neat job, miss and highs are clear as a bell, but as I said, no bass, but 2 underseat subs will be added soon.

The components and speakers behind the seats are amped up using this, it’s tiny and fits behind the stereo, has 100w x4 and the headunit controls the crossovers etc....

The subs in the footwell have great bass, the mids are in the doors and tweeters in the usual places. All looks OEM, just that they are all Hertz.

That's the same amp I've got, feeding a set of 3 way Focal component speakers in the front, sounds fantastic !

I was wondering about under-seat subs, but would they actually fit under the Z4's seats ? There doesn't seem a lot of room there !

There is hardly any room under the seats if they are electric for sure. I never thought there would be enough depth to make it worthwhile anyway. That's a clever install 1000rr.
