Hi

I have the MKIV Nav System with CD Changer.
Unplugged the 6 and 3 pin plugs from the changer and plugged into the Intravee.
Ainet cable connected between Intravee and KCA-420i.
Ipod connected to KCA-420i.
Nothing showing on the Nav screen and the Ipod doesn't show a charging/plugged in symbol.

Not sure what to check next?

Thanks

Jim

New or second hand components?

If the connection is properly in, you should be able to read the iBus signals if you connect a laptop to the serial port.

That way you can test the connections to the bus at least. If that is ok, you have to go to the connections of the Alpine unit.

All brand new.
Have been in touch with Toysinyourcar who are going to check the Intravee that I got from them and the KCA-420i that I bought elsewhere as they didn't have in stock.

Thanks for replying.

I was hoping the Intravee was in setup mode but Leigh at Toysinyourcar suggests I'd still see the Alpine Logo on the Ipod if it was.

He suggests it could be a blown fuse in the Intravee or 1 of many other things. I'm sending the cables as well for him to check.

Thanks for replying PVR.

The Intravee itself you can check once connected to the car, without the Alpine unit, just to see if it talks to the iBus.

An update guys....its in and working.

Got a call yesterday from Leigh at "Toysinyourcar" to say he has checked my Intravee and KCA-420i in his Beemer and it's the KCA at fault. :(
He kindly let me pop over to collect from his home where he was in the middle of a spot of DIY. He took me to his car to show the KCA not working. We were both shocked to find it now working. Strange. Said goodbye, gunned it home and installed and it's all working. Not really sure of the solution but it's been in for over a day and working.
Leigh has been superb throughout and went the extra mile to check the KCA which I hadn't bought from him along with the Intravee. He even had to go collect my parcel from the P.O as he wasn't in when they tried to deliver. Top guy. Will give him a mention in "Dealer Feedback".

Anyway a few things I learned along the way that may help others.

1) The whole install was carried out from the boot. Took out the bottom section of the carpet after removing plastic clips. Removed clips from vertical carpet and lifted 90 degrees and wedged up. This saved removing.

2) If you have a CD changer installed like I have, then the 6 & 3 pin cables will be looking at you from the rectangular hole at the bottom centre. I had about 8" of cable once removed.

3) The 3 pin cable on mine was a PIA and I broke it getting out. If anyone else suffers from this there is a quick fix.
I ordered 1 X 61138377072 & 3 x 61130006663.

You'll get the 3 pin plug and the 3 leads that go in the plug. Came to £5.12 delivered from Cotswold-Hereford.

4) You can route the Ipod cable into the cabin across the top of the cd changer. See here. http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=24856

Its in and thanks to all who helped especially pvr and dgm for their great help via PM. Cheers guys.

And now the problems. :headbang:

1) I have a lot of hiss which is only really noticeable when the volume is over 50% which for me is most of the time. From what I've read it sounds like it could be Ibus noise. It's still present with the KCA-420i and Ipod connected. The same hiss at a slightly lower level is present when I select "AUX". I seem to remember it being there to a lesser extent though the Cd changer. Have tried the alternate jumper connections in the Intravee with no improvement.
I've ordered a new Ashtray/Lid assembly which should be here at the end of next week. While installing I'll try disconnecting the "AUX" mod to see if that's causing it.
Can I live with the hiss? Probably not so will have to try to resolve.

2) Having problems with the right hand rotary knob. Twice happened today where I can't select any Intravee options when I press the knob in. You can highlight the options with the rotary but nothing happens when depressed. Switch off and return to the car 15 mins and it's fixed itself? I've just unassigned MFSW commands that I'd set up earlier to see if that was causing probs. Will have a play again tomorrow.

Did the TIS help you with the wiring diagram?

Re the Intravee options - as per your other thread, did you set it to MKIV V40 or higher? Forget about the MSFW commands as they do not work.

If all fails, check with mine on the 27th as I have a later (beta) release, as there are some oddities with the z4 specific Intravee software.

And could the hiss be coming from your scotch block connections I wonder ...

Will do.

Dunno.....all my soldering stuff is at work so a job for next week.
I presume you have no hiss with volume at 75-100% even with Ipod removed?

Absolutely quiet.

Just concerned as you cut the wires and rejoined them that they are collecting interference now.

Great write up... Its quite cheap to be able to extend the ibus cable... I only had about 10cm of cable, which limits where the intravee can go.

I'm amazed you managed to feed the wire between the CD changer though.. even without a CD changed i couldnt get it throught the flexible tray.

Was this hiss there before the intravee install?

Tried removing the cables from my "Aux" install. Still hiss.
Removed the connector block from Ibus plug connection, soldered wires and finished with heat shrink sleeving. Still hiss.
I think it's definitely ibus noise of the tsk-tsk type discussed over at Intravention. Have posted there and await a reply.

Really loving the Intravee despite the hiss which isn't noticeable really unless the volume is over 50% and playing a quiet track.
Would definitely recommend.

sorry to open an old topic but did you ever sort the ibus noise? im experiencing the same problem. again i would highly recommend the intravee even with the noise but would like to know if anyone has found a solution?

How have you fitted the intravee and the kca420i? When I first fitted mine, I had the cable between the two coiled up next to a silver unit, which I assume to be an amplifier. Listening to the ipod I was getting some interferance which I didn't have when it was fitted to my M3. Having moved this cable, it seems to have got rid of the interferance.
Still having major problems with the intravee after updating the software, however the intravee support is brilliant so far.

I have issues as well, just remember the most important button: The satnav one.

Press that for 3 seconds or so, and you get back to the "now playing" menu where you can do everything again, great for when you are stuck - like I am often :D

The right knob (not you :poke: ).

Press that from any menu, or anywhere, and you will get the "now playing" list. The same knob you use to select menus etc.
