Can you post exactly what you're looking for engine wise as there's a lot of people on here and you never know!

Th Lotus engine can be very costly to rebuilt, the blocks and cylnder heads are very expensive the latter going for about 4-6 grand! The engines were thrashed about, very very hard to find let alone source a honest engine.

Will do mate, of course they are not old cheap BMWs under 200hp... .taking them as they are (thats the Lotus Mk1) they go upwards of 20 grand nowadays!!! I doubt I will find a good working order Lotus engine soonish.

Anyway judging by the colour of the dash in your Cortina I'm guessing it didn't start life as a Lotus. So unless you are looking for authenticity, there are other options - maybe a Zetec with throttle bodies? You'll get significantly more power too with lower running costs. :wink:

Good idea, the pic is not my car, but I have a similar one, in a garage some distance from home, no pics available at the mo. Pic just for info purposes, mine is very similar and relatively mint.
Do you think I could shoe horn an American small block engine into it? I like the sound they make.

I thought that too, but a tweaked Zetec would probably be more powerful - even if it didn't sound quite as good!

And an Essex V6 is a bit of a boat anchor to put in a car as light as a MK1 Cortina.

If its not a genuine Lotus, then a Zetec makes a brilliant alternative. I used a Duratec, but they have induction/exhaust the other way round.

I'll be classed as a heretic, but, I often used to see zetec-engined Cortinas at track-days and they always performed as though they suited that engine. There was quite a famous one that was always at Castle Coombe, not many WRX/Evos went past him....

Now you see I understand the sentiment, but (and it’s a big but) saying it’s a mans car and women ( or few) women can’t handle it is just as bad as saying it’s a girls car that you were originally railing against. Surely it is “an enthusiasts car” . Why do we have to have this bollocks about male or female bias on this forum, we have enough from outside it as you have found. It’s what we, on here, choose to drive, full stop, no gender.
I’m sure I will get flak for this but I for one am heartily sick of the “girls can’t do this” or “men can’t do that” there are only a few things in life either sex can’t do and they are all down to biology not anything else. :roll:
