My old sexy beast.

That looks tidy. NA or TT?

TT of course :)
It was a very tidy car and great to drive.
A guy from Sweden bought it from me without even seeing it first, he drove it all the way back at 15 to the gallon, they are a thirsty car.

Think I remember reading a similar thread on MKIV? Deffo thirsty if you're pushing them, I got around that on the autobhan at an indicated 170 :driving:

How are you getting around the Aussie plod?

From what I've seen from Mighty Car Mods, they're not too lenient on modified cars

They're aweful by all accounts - moreso on 'lesser' cars - They don't get bothered in the Z4M, would think the supra would attach the attention more owing a lot to the kids who run non turboswith silly bodykits etc - they tend to target more 'sheddy' cars though. A lot of it is to do with the attitude test tbh - pulled over in shorts and a cap and being annoyed about it and you're gonna cop it more than getting pulled over in a suit and smiling politely. I tend to drive sensibly on the road too which fires them up less. I'm thinking of going the route of having engineers certs done which isn't cheap but if it keeps me compliant so be it. It's laregely going to be a track car, and I won't be running it day to day - going to add harnesses but retain the seatbelts, not get too carried away with bodykits or lowering.

15? :o

My TT gets about 15 around town but on a run she is about 23 - 25. I did have a white NA originally and loved the car to bits as it was manual. I think I made a bit of a mistake not going TT manual but when the car came up in Japan for sale, I just had to have it. I assume you are on Mkivsupra.net?

Think that was my old one generally - only time it dipped below that on a run was with serious footdownage. Made it from reading to birmingham in some silly times at times!

Still looks totally modern and aw inspiring. 8)

I remember the first time I saw one. It was a black one sat 10ft up, on a flying display stand, outside the local dealer. I had a, 60 bhp, Nissan Cherry, at the time. The Supra just look like a cross between Concord and the Bat mobile. Fantastic.

Having said all that, I took one out for a test drive, back when I had my Fiat Coupe & it felt huge and lumbering in comparison. I'll take the pin up.

Yeah they're deffo more GT than nimble sports car out of the box, despite the big ish brakes and big power (I read that the supra brakes for a good few years pulled more G's on operation than any others in a production car). Planning to make mine pretty firm on the road and sacrifice a soft ride for brutal handling. Added to some carbon panels, lighter interior and wheels etc I'm hoping it should transform the character of it somewhat.

Here's the thread I posted when I sold it.
It hurts me to read it now

Its the only jap car I would go back to now. But I do miss my celica.

Had 3 Celicas, all stupidly reliable. Both Supras have been pretty steady too considering their age.

Although, looking at the number of recalls, Mr T is not what he was.

first time I've gutted a car - not bad for a couple of day's work :D

it begins...

thought I'd post up some progress since I randomly stumbled across this again.

Interior stripped, carpet refitted in a sort of 911 GT3 minimalist style

Progressing well, sprayed it in plastidip for now - it'l likely stay that way for some time until I decide what I'm going to do for a road car.

such a cool car!! ALWAYS wanted one, and OP this is a great way to get your modding kicks done, build to a super high standard and enjoy enjoy!

i was side by side with one a few weeks back, it was immaculate, i peeped the forged rims, large intercooler, TI exhaust and the car just looked better than anything else i saw on the road that day, super cool cars... That engine as well is a classic, 2jz just = WIN!

been dragging my heels on the supra and have had it sitting there thanks to new cars/new houses and whatever else decided to get in the way - spontaneity hit me today so stripped the plastidip off.. then started sanding.. to see what lay beneath the crappy matte black spray job.. Ended up going full retard.

then got carried away and it's turned into a full bare metal respray

Many more hours of rough sanding and then final sanding to go. A nutty part of me likes the idea of a polished metal and carbon finish but I'm leaning towards laguna seca blue or a deep burnt orange. Haven't seen one in LS so really curious how it could turn out with lashings of carbon etc. I want the final product to be something unique rather than the millions of supras you see in white or black.

Front fenders will be carbon just because, as will the bonnet. The veilside front is genuine but it's fairly heavy. so may do something there, or just go for a carbon splitter and valances. getting fairly excited about it again so going to spend a while sanding my life away.

Not sure if I'm going to have it road legal or just as a track / promo car just yet, the latter being far less headachey here.

Spent the rest of the day adjusting some interior bits

1375920_10152376096091829_4325570712209214263_n.jpg

And tweaking the leather that I recoated the dash with. The fascia will be.. you guessed it.. Carbon :)

Also found some Alpine X type two way speakers lurking beneath the doorcards :D Ripped em out and had a look on the website to see they had a $900 price tag. They'll be going into the porsche / on gumtree at some point, if I sell them it will take the net cost of the car down to $50 considering the parts I've already sold - can't argue with that..

Not sure how I have missed this!!
Cracking looking car and they are great cars to work on.

You have quite a rear beast thereTT with the 5soeed. The gearbox on our car has been the biggest problem. I was working until 2 this morning on it.

I think there should be a supra area on hear there lots who have them or have had then.

Very easy to work on for sure!

Going by the VIN it was a na that someone dropped a TT into - so the W154 5 speed - I got rid though as it just wouldn't handle the power I'm looking for..

What was the problem with yours?? What box do you have in it? I'm going to for a 6 speed Getrag from the TT I think, they're generally pretty bulletproof

The paint job was deffo a rattle can job, which was wierd as the car was black to start with! did see some scratches to the rear so maybe they just thought sod it and went over the whole thing

Yeah it's crazy why anyone rattle cans a car on there driveway is beond me. Ours was done the same they probably shared the same gean puddle

Those 6 speed boxes are not cheap!! And are hard to come by. Witch is why we are not using one. They are strong and good though. We are using a five speed Bmw ZF box. And we have the Lexus 4.0l v8 in the car.

Our project has been a year in the making but hopefully finished in the next few weeks.

Can't wait to see the finished product MM! I don't have your fab skills so mine will be much more off the shelf!

Would love the lexus lump for some more effortless torque as much as I love the 2J. Yeah I've given in the the fact that I'm not going to see a 160/161 for sub $5k

Part of the reason why I've decided to go full pelt with the paint job rather than the original idea of plastidip or vinyl (not that it will stick to the can job!!) Figured the box will cost almost as much as the motor in parts, then paint on top

Too right sail, I actually love them stock (although a well executed wide kit also looks pretty sweet!) I think I want to go the relatively subtle approach for sure

Finally back onto this project after some much needed focusing on hte business..

Have decided a controversial paintjob which could end up looking great or absolutely shite

a bit like this

I like gunmetal supras, so figured why not go for a fully hand sanded and polished finish, complete with carbon fiber wings, spoiler and bodykit.

Will need to be highly polished to lacquer and look good. Not sure exactly how the bodykit would blend in without looking tacked on (the supra has a very obviou, vertical fit line for the rear bumper)

I think with some mirrors like this it could look good
