Jamie's Monaco blue coupe

Have you got a pic Geoff? It Defo looks like the rocker gasket leaking as its dripping down between two of the rocker cover bolts on the side near the manifold

I'm just currently sat in bowker Blackburn having the rust inspected, they're just taking photos now & sending them off to Bmw uk, hopefully get an answer in a week or so.
Sorry no photo. But if it is dripping on the exhaust at the back of the engine it might be the problem. Try sliding your hand down between the heat shield and the back of the engine. If you follow the pipe that comes from the servo you will find the plate. It sits flush on the block. Slide your fingers under the plate and feel if there is oil on it.

Oh well hope they honour it as I've had my paint depth indicator on it and it's OEM paint as far as my reader suggests

Readings around 130 would suggest factory paint I would say.

I thought they always rusted near the window as the water is always standing there.

You can see In page 3 where the water channel if you look closely that's where water has been draining and got infected in that area

This is my coupe. passenger's door and bonnet replaced under warranty and my tailgate had signs of surface rust forming. They have repaired that, but there is a 5 year guarantee on paint and parts, lifetime if I get the warranty book stamped when I mot or service it at bmw.

Assuming it's rusting from the inside out, I'd be interested in knowing how water is getting in there? Under normal circumstances, water should surely run off the roof, down the side channels and drain away. Unless water is slowly seeping past the rear window rubber and collecting inside the tailgate? I would have thought the window is secured and sealed with mastic and that the rubber is more of a finishing trim rather than being functional?

I think maybe because of the flat back end water & salt etc gets flicked up & swirled round on the boot lid on the motorway etc which then creeps under the boot lid at a guess

Wonder whether your LHS drain hole is bunged up at all or if your car has been parked on a gradient earlier in it's life, causing water to pool beyond the drain?
