So how much power can a car get from a 1.6 engine?
200hp?
300hp?
400hp?

Nargh - Jaguar seem to be raising the bar here with 500hp from it's new 10,000 rpm supercharged and turbocharged engine :o :o

Put me down for a hybrid that can do 200mph and 60 up in <3.0 seconds, but not the £700 to £900k

That's nuts - but a hell of a feat of engineering. Gorgeous car too

That's pretty impressive if it ends up going into production like that... although it's slightly sad to see that motor manufacturers are still concentrating on internal combustion - albeit ultra-economical engines powering generators rather than driving wheels - rather than developing Hydrogen engines...

Not wanting to sound like an eco-warrior of course

Is a 1.6 litre engine with both a turbo charger and a super charger actually economical in any meaningful way, except when compared with a super car of similar performance fed solely on petrol ? I didn't see any mpg or CO2 figures quoted... Except for the 60km electric only range... Which ain't great :?

(off to have another read in case I am looking stoopid)

That's a bit special! I'm well pleased Jaguar are producing great cars again, modern looking and class leading etc. I would snap up a Jag XF given the chance.

For a while they were making decent but dated retro looking motors and we all know how that plays out (Rover)

Sounds pretty good, Suzuki Hayabusa tuners have been doing this for a long time though - a 4 cylinder 1.3 motorcycle engine with a monster turbo can push out over 400bhp (yes, on a motorcycle ) Surprisingly these can be quite economical relatively speaking, especially since they can propel you over 200mph...

It was a matter of time before someone was going to develop this technology to go into cars, including a supercharger and electric motors makes for an interesting motor! The technologies in modern motorcycle cylinder heads is pretty top drawer - allowing ridiculous RPM's with fantastic longevity.

Sounds like one heck of a car!

...although, I'm still drooling over the new F-Type and its V6 3L 375hp engine :poke:

Can't disagree having picked up an XF a year ago

Also pleased to see Jag unleashed from Ford who spent a fortune setting up the factories and capability, now with investment under Tata, making a real bid for re-emergence as a top notch manufacturer with some special performance cars in the line-up.
