Jacking the Z4

Thought I'd fit my new front discs/pads this morning. Fail. Bl00dy jack won't sit under the car properly - I've used this trolley jack for TVRs for over 10 years and its foiled by the super-low Z4. I tried the jack from the boot of our Golf GTI and Fiat Panda but I wasn't happy with how it touched the floorpan. Guess i'll have to buy a BMW jack - what's the damage?

(Yes, I have axle stands and know about safety).

Race jack from any of the usual suppliers - Machine Mart, etc.

Alternative is to just drive onto a plank first, which gives more than enough for most trolley jacks to slide under.

I have two Trolley Jacks, both of which dont fit under, so I place a 1.5 inch piece of chipboard under the wheel which gives enough clearence for the jack to go under. Problem solved

Aye its a pain. I resorted to steeling the emergency one from my parents Ford. Perfect size.

As has been stated before the Jack from a 3 series E46 or any late model BMW will fit, available from most breakers for about 15 quid.

It gets messy arsing around with random objects to gain clearance... as I discovered the other week when a block I drove off flicked up and fortunately just rubbed against the wheel arch liner a bit.
Low-level jack just makes life 10x easier, so get one imho :D

Totally agree and have suitable jacks, some people don't do it often and don't seem to want to spend (no reference to OP).

I also said 'plank' for the very reason you state that tyres can easily flick a block up into the bodywork as they mount and drop off it.

I'll see how I get along without for now - I can try the plank of wood trick if needed. My reason for buyin a Z4 was a fun roadster I don't need to fiddle with too much. Otherwise I'd have kept the TVR :D
