Jacking front end up from reinforcement member

Hi all,

Just sharing an 'interesting find'. Today I was under my car checking the sump gasket leak I've had for a while and I noticed that my reinforcement plate was slightly deformed inwards (into the engine bay) and upon closer inspection I could see the area that is deformed inwards is resting against the sub-frame. So someone has jacked the front end up from the reinforcement plate and since this car doesn't have the same central jacking point the ///Ms have, it deformed.

I was gonna do the mod Liam22 has done to his E86, but I might not bother now as the plate is already deformed and the load transfer is through the plate straight onto the subframe as it would be with a nylon puck.

I would also like recommendations for an adjustable spanner that will work on the drop links. All of my open ended spanners seem to be both too small to go over the machined slots and too thick at the same time to fit in that tight space.

An adjustable will always be thicker than a 'normal' open ender and will most likely round off the nut/bolt you are trying to undo in the process because they will never fit as well as a quality tool. Adjustables are for when you can't find anything better, and strictly for hurling across the workshop when you debark your knuckles when it slips :? . Best way is to grind the thickness down on a spare spanner until it fits....but you can buy thin spanners off the shelf from one of the better tool suppliers.

Only asked for an adjustable as I don't have a grinder or power in my garage (away from my flat) and I could not find the size of slots through my search here and I don't want to guestimate and order the wrong tool. Also people seem to suggest adjustable spanner every time the topic comes up.

Never used it on drop links but I bought a slim jawed Bahco adjustable from either Screwfix or Toolstation a few years ago for a particular job. Don't know if they are still available but they literally just machined down 1 side of the Jaws.
