Jacking all four corners.

I did as Bing mentions earlier - all four points on jacks - when i sent my wheels for refurb, and also when I cleaned and painted all four calipers/centre hubs. Was a bit nervous when doing the rear centre point lift with the fronts on jacks, but worked without any worries. Just make sure you have good quality jacks!

If you're taking the wheels off put them under the sills too. Better a new wheel than a pancake head.
Also did this when doing the caliper/hubs, and checking underneath the car

Just to be clear - wheels AND stands, not just on the jack. Extra peace of mind. The drain plugs are a bit fiddly to get to, you may struggle to see them. Take the plastic arch bit off and all will become clear - 3 nuts I think.

Agreed on the stands - if it wasn't clear from my post, it was jack to raise, then stands to hold (as per Bing's post). Wheels underneath as safety buffers.

Having said that, I didn't need to jack the car up to do the drains - just some fiddling around to remove the covers and drain plugs. And I definitely don't have dainty fingers

So you did the drains with the car on the floor?

Yep, just very fiddly (and some skinned knuckles...).

:D from the bottom of the car, only a few inches (once the covers are removed). They're not that far up there.
TBH once you've found them and done it the first time, the following times are pretty straight forward. It may be easier to jack up one corner so you can see them - or remove the cover and use a phone to take a picture?

You just have to reach up as far as you can until you feel the chassis then feel for a protrusion. I've taken mine off completely, I can't see how gunk can migrate up and they clog easily.

Ok, I was going in thought the hole in the side skirt rather than the hatch, this must be where it was going wrong!

I took mine out at the weekend, but i've removed them before so knew where they were.

I had to Jack mine up a bit as my Z4's lowered and couldn't bend my arm underneath the car. Quite easy to do, but really you need to know where to put your fingers, so i'd recommend going through the hatch if it's your first time.
