Jack up + AXLE

Hi all

So i bought a kit with 2 axel and one lifting jack.

Do i have to buy that jack pad adapter for z4 so i can lift my car? Can you guys explain me how should i place the axle after jacking up and where exactly?

I saw 4 jacking points under the car:

2 plastic things behind front wheels and 2 plastic things in front of the rear wheels.

So how can i do this? Should i lift the car using front wheel plastic point and then place the axle on the rear wheel plastic point?

You use the jacking points you see

I use the rear pair, I don't use the jack pad you mention.

Jack straight onto the plastic square

I jack on the rear pad so the front of the car is up too and put my axle stand under the front jack point

Lower down

Go round the other side, same again

Now you have both front wheels off of the ground and the axle stands supporting the car on the front jacking points

Now look under the car at the back. In the centre there is a point where two diagonal braces meet and are bolted with two bolts to the chassis

I put my jack on there and lift both rear wheels at once, you can now put you axle stands at the rear jacking points

All four wheels are off the ground and the car is supported by four axle stands on all four jacking points

I normally have my jack near to where I'm working in the up position to give home protection if the worst was to hapen

To get it back down it's the reverse

HI

Thanks.

One question:

If im working in the front for an oil change and both axle are in the front.. where should i fit the jack for safety reasons?

Uhh if your just doing and oil change you don't need to jack all four up just one wheel is enough but you will need to drop the car back down onto its wheels otherwise all the oil wont come out

Put the jack under the drivers side front jack point

Lift the car, push you axle stand under the wish bone

Drop it down on to the stand slide under release the oil plug

Jack back up remote axle stand, drop to floor

There's also an "official" front centre jacking point. It is marked in the bottom tray by a circular protrusion that has a recessed bolt in the centre. Using this makes it a bit difficult to access the oil drain though. While it's possible to support the car on the plastic supports without a pad, I've seen several BMWs where these were broken from people doing this. I simply cut a rectangle of plywood that fits into the plastic, then put a hole and countersink in it which accepts a large machine screw. Thus the plywood is like a rectangular, thick washer. The whole assembly is dropped into a hole in my jack or axle stand. Thus the plastic supports nothing and it's virtually impossible for the car to slide off the support.

With the 6 jack points and common sense, you can lift the car to do anything you need.

My car does not have the front jacking point - I think in the UK that is only on the ///M ? Or am I blind ?

There is no front jacking point on a non m

That protrusion is soft and has nothing behind it

Everyone should decide for themselves if a lifting technique is safe. I'm pretty comfortable with TIS recommendations.

To be thorough, I put in several engines and years, and the same image is used for all of them. Point 1 is what I am referring to. It is directly under the front cross member, which receives the M10 bolt visible in the centre.

Note: if you want to use the diff as lifting point (point 3), you must first remove the heat shield below it.

I was trying this today but when I went to jack up the second side at the rear I could not get the front high enough to get the second jack (axle) stand under the front. Right when it was even remotely close to getting high enough the front would counter tip downwards noticing that the rear was now lifting higher than the front was. My objective is replacing the front struts/springs so I need both up at the same time.
