I keep looking for another 'toy' (even though I don't really have the room).
I have never really been a Jag fan, but I keep coming back to one of these.
Quite rare, as they were bloody expensive when new. The 'pinnacle' of ICE Jags maybe? Could be worth a punt as a medium-term 'investment'?? Probably not, but I do like the idea of 540bhp and a million torques in a blown V8. Apparently they also sound like thunder! :)

I like the XKs, but I'd rather have the F-Type Coupe V8R with that engine when I can no longer operate 3 pedals.

Frankly I'd rather have a TVR than either of them, but you seem to have moved on from that idea already.

How long would you have it anyway?

A TVR is just too high maintenance (literally).
Anything with a TVR lump is terrible, and anything else has an old Rover (buick) V8 in it.
I really don't like working on cars (funny as that may seem) and my arthritis is worsening by the week, which really isn't helping.

I’ve been looking at XK8 convertible’s for a few years now, something about a fat lazy charged V8 in a comfy old farts cabin really appeals.

Hope I’m not going all ‘PVR’ 😳

By coincidence, I’ve been looking at the XKR-S too.
My wife uses her Taycan as a daily driver and we mostly take that when we need a family car. As such, our F Pace is used only occasionally when I need a sensible car to cover hundreds of kilometres or if the weather precludes my use of a toy as a means of transport.
I don't see the point in having a diesel since I very rarely tow anything now, but I do need something with four seats just in case I need to take our small people somewhere.
By a large margin, our Jaguar has been the most reliable car either of us has owned - it’s just hit 100k miles with no mechanical, electrical or other faults, and no maintenance requirements beyond routine servicing. That’s despite my wife’s unsympathetic driving and previous very frequent short journeys, and my using all 700Nm of torque whenever possible. The current contenders for its replacement are an F Pace SVR (my wife’s preference) or an XKR-S. Both have that fantastic engine and both are the peak evolution of their model lineage. In the long term, I suspect the XK will hold its value since it’s a rare and special car, whilst the F Pace will become almost worthless. However, the F Pace has all of the technological advances that make modern cars easy to drive huge distances and I’m not sure that I’m enough of an old fart to drive an XK (Pondy, that won’t apply to you).

One of the reviews I read said "the rear seats will only accommodate very small children and not ones you are emotionally attached to, as they will be broken when you get anywhere". Made me smile.

Can you get hold of an XFR-S Sportbrake where you are? Pretty special.

At 2.5 and 5 years they’re still pretty small. My son is a little thug, I’m sure he’d love it!

Very few were made, I’m not sure if any were sold here. I think that mechanically, they’re broadly the same as an F Pace SVR, except for the obvious difference!

They get big VERY quickly, though. My daughter was a toddler only yesterday; today she is driving to Newcastle to visit her boyfriend!!

I’ve had a couple of XKs no major problems but they are long in the tooth now, I looked at a couple a few years back, ended up buying an E85 as a fun car, recently looked at the F Type but no luggage space on the soft top so bought the G29 very comfortable fast too.

No way hose-A. Heavy handle like a barge. They look old. A fast hatch from the era will leave it for dead at the first tight corner. But that is not really the point I guess.

In case your not sure. I'm not a fan. Get an Aston and enjoy being poor in style. Enjoy it whatever you go for. ;)

True though that is, I will need to drive something whilst they’re doing all that growing

This being the Z4 Forum, you could just get a Porsche
That would be the 'default' approach for someone of my age, yes.
I could only entertain a 911 and they are not exactly rare, are they. In fact I am struggling to think of many people I know (with the spare cash) who haven't got, or had, a Porsche.
