I've ruined the car!

Yes we did, could have done with some forum badges so that we could know who one another were. Good day though once we joined the slightly quicker convoy, I didn't get around to try the iS in the end but probably a good thing in just in case I liked it!

Well after two and a half weeks the dealer phoned today to say it was back. So they are upgrading the software tommorrow for the fuel pump and then I can have it back- it seems like ages since I have driven it so fingers crossed there are no problems this time.

I'd be interested to hear what happens with the software and the fuel pump whine. My car has just been collected from my home by Scothall Leeds' Workshop Controller, who's been personally assigned to make sure my car is sorted. Said they are keeping it for 3 days to do some intensive analysis...

Oh and try fix the dodgy oil sensor - which they're replaced once already - one minute its full - the next below minimum and bonging to me it needs 1 litre immediately.

Only had it 3 weeks now and the gremlins have serious hold of it.

Well, the software update has stopped the fuel pump noise much to my and the service managers surprise.

What isn't good though is the paintwork. 2 weeks at the body shop and the colour is still wrong, the rear deck (bit under the top) was resprayed as it had laquer overspray on it but is full of grit. The seals are still covered in overspray and again the paint has bad defects including the fact that you can see where it was rubbed down with and orbital sander through the paint. The dealer hasn't argued at all and is talking to BMW to get it done at their own facility.

One step forward!

Regarding the fuel pump issue, read here! :

http://www.bmwblog.com/2010/10/13/class-action-suit-on-bmw-n54-turbo-engine-for-defective-high-pressure-fuel-pumps-and-turbo-chargers/

This happened to my car the day after I had it! Booked into the dealer and they ordered a new part (at the time they never disclosed what!) and it's been fine since. Looks like it's was a continual problem.

Mentioned on this thread was a software fix. I found this an interesting quote:

"Plaintiffs allege, however, that rather than repair the defective turbo chargers, BMW implemented a secret ’software fix’ to hide the problems from consumers. Any time a consumer brought their BMW in for repair or routine maintenance, BMW would ‘upgrade’ the vehicle’s software. This software tweak kept the turbo chargers from operating at full capacity, ensuring that their defects would go undetected."

Don't really want to think about what they may have done, after losing the car for 12 weeks I just want to get back to having a bit of fun with it!

Yes Steph, my wife, will be my co pilot. Looking forward to it.
