I've just experienced the first 'character building' faults

Driving into work yesterday and the airbag light comes on. Ahhhh. Fortunately for me my local indi was able to take a look straight away and diagnose that the slip ring was faulty. He reset the code but said the ring would need replacing if the light came back on. Everything was gravy for the rest of the day but, you guessed it, it came back on again this morning. So it’s booked in for Friday to be replaced.

No dramas with the garage at all – can’t recommend them enough – but the warranty what a palaver. So I get it that they have a ceiling for labour rate (£45/hr in this case) but how can they tell the garage how long the repair is going to take? So the long and short of it is, the repair is going to hit the aero skirt kitty for £90 which, in the grand scheme of things, I suppose isn’t too bad if not a little frustrating.

I think BMW have a time recommendation for every type of job, stated in 5 minute chunks, so perhaps if this is public info, they would know how long that particular job should take.

Don't know your warranty details, but isn't £45 per hour labour low?

A warranty company can't pay out what any garage asks for because the garages would just take the piss.
It's the same with insurance companies, they have a timing system called Aldex I think that specifies how long a job takes.
And garages do work for insurance companies and warranty companies for an hourly rate for less than they would charge an individual. Well under half the hourly rate.
