I've had enough....

After a number of things happening in certain ways I've finally decided I've well and truly had it with the UK. The weather, our taxation, the COST OF LIVING!!!, our roads, the relentless war on the motorist and many other factors really are driving me towards the idea of emigrating. The Olympics provided to a certain degree a real feel good factor, but that was short lived. I'm only in my 20's and I honestly don't see things getting any better.....the only things that put a smile on my face on a regular basis are my Z and my family. Does anyone else have similar thoughts/contemplations??? Or am I being too negative...

I travel abroad quite a lot for work and believe me when you start talking to the man in the street it doesn't seem to matter which country you are in from Brazil to the USA via Italy we all have exactly the same gripes.
If you do emigrate of course there will be a honeymoon period but when that wears off you will still be paying taxes etc, but the weather might be better.

I can honestly say that despite everything I enjoy getting home to Britain and it really is one of the best places in the world to live despite all it's problems.

totally agree with you but you will miss home comforts that you take for granted. i've considered leaving more than once but it comes down to the price of having the privileges we have here that other countries dont..... every country has its positives and negatives..... apart from scotland :poke: :P

Ha...I've never actually been to Scotland for a decent amount of time so no comment on that  . I just feel like its a constant uphill battle to progress at the moment, and I am grateful for the opportunities and benefits the uk has provided up until now. I'm going to Aus for the first time in December so if I'm really wowed I could give it some serious thought. Those mupets in govt ATM aren't exactly making me feel any more optimistic :headbang:

preaching to the converted here mate ,
low incomes, high taxes & high cost of living is going to be the norm for the long forseable future .
the party hosted by labour was excellent at the time but as soon as the ale ran out the hangover started & it turns out it wasn,t a free bar 8)
luckily been feathering our property nest in france for 10years so as soon as our children are able to support themselves its au revoir uk .
FTR myself & mrs w are 44 with boy 20 & girl 16 so target is 50 if not before :)
happy if they come with us but happier if they carve a better life in a country that rewards hard work & effort rather than taxing you to pay for those who can't be 4rsed

Mr M is constantly going on about going to America. Italy is luring me.
I wish we could live 6 months here in the 'summer' and six months abroad. I'm dreading the winter. I hate it.

I already emigrated once to the UK from NL because Mrs PVR is English.

I probably can see a lot of the positives of the UK from an outsider view, but can also see the negatives (and scary bits like who is let into this country from outside the EU ...).

To expand on that a bit:

Negatives (besides the above):

- Who designs houses in this country at a minute size that I had never seen before.
- What is it with the railways using 1940s stock with slam doors (only recently replaced).
- Road maintenance - don't go there
- Being ripped off by tradesman (Getting BMW M tax as soon as they pull up the drive).
- Obsessive behaviour against the motorist by the police
- minority rules
- Race card or fear of race card being used dominates life it seems (and don't mention the M word in public).

Positives:

- Tax is low (really, it is compared to other countries).
- Road tax is low.
- You can easily start a business (is a positive as well as a negative). No share capital required for creditors unlike in other countries.
- You can buy a place here safely. No Spanish activities of disowning etc.
- It is not seen as anti social if you own multiple places or have money.
- There are nice places with nice people with old fashioned values still about if you know where to go (Scotland ticked a few boxes for me).
- It is fairly safe place to be about (could be better, but no means the worst).

All in all, I am quite happy here but miss some of the good bits from my old home country (which has plenty of own faults as well though).

Close friends of mine spend sept to march in Brisbane and the summer in England IT seems perfect.Thinking of doing the same.

Im truely fed up with the UK...

Althought working full time, missus works part time we seem to be treading water.IMHO the cost of just day to day living is so high,it doesnt really leave a lot of spare cash...
We are lucky in that we have no debts,so should really be building a nest egg but over the last 5 years wages have roughly stayed the same whilst everything else seems to have rocketed..

Where would i go?? I love France and Canada has always drawn me for some reason...

Another 8-10 yrs and with any luck we will look at moving away...

In the UK if your a hard working tax payer and law abiding your screwed, but if your not working, pay no taxes and don't abide by the the law the goverment can't do enough for you.ie the Jeremy Kyle generation.

Thats what really grinds my gears about the UK

I went on holiday to abroad once. Didn't like it. Do you realise they don't have pork pies, pease pudding stottie cakes or even picalilli in abroad?

Also when you ask for a beer they give you bloody lager!

I hope you took your knotted hankie for your head when you went? :D

He's got to be a north east lad

It is worth pointing out I think that every country in the developed world is experiencing the same austerity, rising taxes and cost of living. It's the penalty for years of living beyond our means and believing the gravy train would never stop.

In France Mr Hollande was elected on a pledge to end austerity and is about to pass the most austere budget in France's history - he's realised they've got no money and their taxes are higher than the UK. It's the same in the US, Australia, Italy, Spain and now even Germany is catching the same cold. Probably the only exceptions are countries like China and India really.

I was offered a very lucrative job in Moscow earlier this year which I had to think very hard about. The 12% tax, salary on offer and $5,000/month rental allowance made it very appealing at face value but there is more to life than money. I would've been away from my family & g/f, in a country where I wouldn't feel safe frankly, with 5 months of very harsh winter (-25c the norm) and as it turns out, I am very glad I didn't go, because recently my closest friend has been diagnosed with cancer and is recovering in hospital from major surgery as we speak. I would've been allowed in the UK for only 90 days a year which would've been tough, being so far away when he's been going through such a rough time. As said in an earlier post, I went with my instinct, which in this case told me to stay put. Next time might be different though....

We're not hostile, ya f**ker :P

For all it's faults (the benefit state of mind winds me up for starters...) the UK's not a bad place to live. Nowhere's perfect.
