I've found Bing's Imola M Roadster!

Seriously phone up BMW UK and give them the reg, see what's what...I might be jumping the gun, it could be Indy services (which IMO are quite often better than main dealer!) But they'll no doubt have some info on it, for free. No need to hpi as BCA do that.

Quite possibly yes, or it could be a dog which a dealer wouldn't even put on their forecourt as they know it needs too much remediation work or needs big money spend on it.

Despite that, talk of £10k has my attention! Just called BCA, commission is between £503 to £600 based depending on the final price being £10k to £12k. Get 3 days to collect.

The main sales guy was out the office, but do you know if the BCA will give you the V5 document number, chassis number in advance? Would want to look up the MOT history and contact BMW. Would they show you the SH stamps?

You're right G, it could be a dog, that's the risk you take. But I think with the right homework and research and inspection on the day you should have a very good idea if that's the case or not. From the brief overview on their website, my 'gut feeling' is that it's looking pretty decent. But as with any auction, it's a gamble. But the thing with BCA is that the majority of their cars come from high end main dealers who don't want it, usually because it doesn't suit their appearance.

I mean the car had a service recently and won't be due one for quite a while. I'm sure they don't sell 'dogs' as this would go against their policies (see faq's on their website). A good thing to look at is what tyres does it have? Good Years etc or budget Accelera/Sunny tyres? Disc and pad wear is easy to assess, check of oil etc can be done too. Just little things, these will give you an idea of how the previous owner cared for the car. Take DAZ with you as he knows all things Z :)

Ok fair enough, quite a high fee but that gets you some peace of mind. £10k is just my estimate, please don't take that as bible! Could be more, could be less...

They should be able to give you all those details, if not now then on the day of the auction so at 9am you can have access to all that info. You can then phone the garage it was last serviced at, maybe contact the last RK...

To put it into perspective, my local Audi dealership would just ship that car straight to BCA. They wouldn't even try and shift it within group - they just don't do that.

Bing is working his ass off trying to close a deal and get rid of everything else before he leaves his job... And he doesn't get his redundancy £ until the 28th, nor does he have a new job yet :headbang:

Oh, and this would scupper The Plan :headbang:

Great spot though Woody - not read the thread properly, will do later this evening

Srhutch - seen the one at James Paul, looks lovely. Not sure the dash is fixable fast...

imo it is just too much of a gamble ; there has been a post over the last few days re a dodgy gearbox, this car may be fine but it could have been put in the auction for any multitude of probs, ie diff, gbox even engine or vanos , without a good half hour test drive i just wouldnt be happy to chance it, a couple of grand car yes but not a 10 to12k one. it may be fine and end up on here as a peach but still too many what if's. ps , its very easy when your spending someone else's dosh

Had a better look at this, and the one at James Paul. To be honest, except for the dash and lack of cruise (both of which could in theory be fixed) I like the James Paul one better - it has the DSP stereo, is younger, and it is much lower mileage. It doesn't have a wind deflector though (says it does, but no fittings so must be a gimp mask) and that is a big negative as it's an expensive retrofit. The auction one is high mileage, looks to be quite a bit of cosmetic work required, and by the time you fix all that, add fees, tax etc. etc. then it gets pricey. The YY registration rings some bells too - weren't YY registered cars originally BMW press cars ? Could be wrong.

Right now I'd expect to pay £15-16k for a good one, and that sort of price is not out of my budget if The Plan continues on track

Have to say, despite the mileage, I have been more tempted by JimExpl's car for sale on here than either of these. Not imola red, but the next best ///MR colour and very well looked after.

Bing , Ive chased lots of cars over the years & always with a "perfect" one in mind , the reality however has generally been a different colour/trim level/engine/mileage etc BUT i have still bought & enjoyed whichever car it was ,
Now i wouldn't buy a car in a colour i didn't like or crazy mileage but providing it meets my standard i find that somewhere between perfection & affordability is a car that suits .
Unless funds dictate you can chase the dream 8) which of course is a privilege
Sounds like you are enjoying the search though  hope you get what you want

Ah, but the perfect car is out there mr wilks

Stuart is just looking after it for me until he has another 'ooooo - shiny' moment :D

And if he doesn't, then Darren has a next to perfect one... I'd honestly look to buy from someone on here first, as I know the imola roadsters on here have been loved and looked after.

i would 100% agree & Darren does have a coupe itch to scratch so you may be lucky :driving:

The James Paul one was for sale from Norwich Sports and Classics two weeks ago for £13,995, I know because I wanted to buy it but was on holiday, a week later and James Paul has bought it and slapped £15,995 on the price tag :(

I do keep looking at ///MC's, wish I could have one of each :D

If i received a phone call today I'd probably say yes, however tomorrow is a different story, particularly if the suns out :D

Yes something like that I was told to when I bought my 1, plate was before my plate went on was YK, when I bought it with 4k on it it was only BMW that had owned it. Sales guy said, would have been a press car, a pool car for head office or even someones own company car. You tend to find those ones have all the toys on!

Here is the Norwich Sports and Classics listing. It's an ended item but I can still view it:
