I've developed a debilitating 3.0 addiction.....

I picked up a 3.0iSE on Tuesday evening and have to say I'm very impressed. The car is a 2004 in Sterling Grey with black leather and 108's. Before you all start shouting I'll get some photos posted as soon as I can remember where I've put my camera.

I was out and about round the Worcestershire countryside at 6am as it was a clear morning. I couldn't resist taking the opportunity to get the roof down and get out there before the roads got busy. I now find myself volunteering for all kinds of chores that involve being within sight of or, even better, going out in the car. I can handle it. I can quit at any time I want. <Shiver>

Every once in a while you sit in and drive a car that feels like it has been designed around you. That's the feeling I get with the Z4. From the easy way my arm falls to the gear knob, the seating position to the general dynamic characteristics of the car. It really is frighteningly easy to drive quickly. Considering the limited time I've spent in the car I already feel very comfortable and confident in the cars capabilities.

The way the car steers reminds me of the +8 Morgan I drive in that in both cars you sit almost over the rear axle and the (long) nose of the car moves as if you were the pivot point. They both also respond very well to being steered with the throttle as opposed to constantly adjusting steering input once the car is set up for a corner. The front end does feel a bit vague but I'm sure that will be sorted when I change to NRF's. The ride is nowhere near as harsh as I was expecting. But I am used to the Mog which feels like you're sliding down stairs on an ash framed tea tray.

The engine is very tractable. It pulls from near crawling pace in pretty much every gear. The way the power is delivered is linear with no discernible flat spots. The way in which the power is delivered is like a 'luke warm' Porsche 993. All in all a very pleasing and competent package.

More thoughts will be posted when they occur to me and pictures to follow when I remember which of the 'safe places' I used to store my camera.

Thanks to everyone that gave me advice prior to buying the car. I'm sure I'll be very happy tweaking and enjoying it for a long while to come. I'll hopefully get to meet some other 'addicts' along the way.

Dan.

Nice write up and does capture the feeling that these cars create. I'd like to post for longer but have to nip out to check my Zed is OK

Look forward to pictures as Sterling Grey on 108's is my fav. Of course we need a side by side with the Morgan.

I feel the same. My wife calls it the other women! Have fun!

Know exactly what you mean, but its a nice addiction to have :D Its seems so effortless to drive, and it eats up the miles in no time. In my previous cars i used to average no more than 7-8k a year, but in the 3 months ive had the Z4 i have already racked up 3k in it. Many of which have been meaningless drives, but any excuse to turn the key and go for a blast :D On many of my journeys i try to take the scenic route, even to work! :o

Glad you are enjoying the car had mine just over a year and still grin from ear to ear when i turn the key.

Glad to see i am not the only one that goes out at the crack of dawn cannot beat 6-7am Sunday morning top down heated seats on to take off the chill and empty roads :D my neighbours think i never drive the car but i tell them by the time they get up i have been to the coast had a coffee and back again.

The weather now is perfect for an evening run but sadly had a couple of beers while cleaning the old girl so up early tommorrow :D

Well OK as long as we're gushing, I too have a 2004 Z3.0 and this August will mark my third year in the drivers seat. I have to tell you the feeling of exhilaration has never left me and it only gets better with time. The more you drive, the more you become a part of the car and it becomes part of you. It's kind of like slipping into a very fine, perfectly fitting glove, then it's off to tame this wild instrument of the road. It doesn't seem to matter if you're rolling at blazing speed, blasting through the twisties or just loping along in traffic, it always feels real good.

Beautiful car. I love those wheels. My Z is the only car I've ever owned that never lets me down. Every time I get in my car it puts a smile on my face. :)

Shoot, every time I wash mine, I catch myself walking by the window, glancing out at it. Sure is pretty sitting there in the driveway.

Hello, my name is Smokin' and I'm a Z addict............... :)

I just finished telling my wife the same thing. It is the first car that after 3 years and 6 months , I "Smile" when Igo out to get in the next morning!
Thanks for posting!

I'm addicted too!

Unfortunately, this forum does nothing in the way of rehab.

Neither do warm sunny days like we've had here today. Been out most of the afternoon feeding my fix again! Donned the shades. top down, pure bliss! :driving: :D

Addiction is a problem...

Scarlett is downstairs at work today (I do not normally drive in). It is sunny and all I can think about is leaving work and bombing through the City...

It's a terrible affliction.
I've got my Zed out the garage and parked it in front of my office window with the roof down as it's sunny. All I need to do now is think of a reason to go out, but I'm busy with work...

I cannot walk away from the Zed when parked without looking back - a sign of a car you really like :D

Great write up.

I've just got my Z4 3.0 too, but after 3 weeks I'm wishing I had the cash for a Z4M.... I NEED that extra 100bhp. But I always need more power, you can never have enough.

Still this roof down lark is making me smile, all the smells and sounds you just don't get. I may change my mind when a old pack of Quwavers flies up and sticks to my face :)

Agreed Shabba. I am 3 months in and want more more more! But having said that, I am very happy.

Really enjoyed spanking a chav in a 306 on Saturday. 1inch behind the rear bumper and then suddenly a mile. You then slow down to let the idiot past. :driving:

Managed to drive past the protest at Parliament Square today (with the top down).

Not recommended!
