Its time i shared my 2016 BHP plans

Right first things first The idea of buying a whole car is well just crazy!! Just buy an engine and other bits needed. engine and gearbox should do.
You dont need or want the 3.0l diff as its an open diff. You would be better off just buying a LSD and installing it in to the existing diff casing.
Buy and old engine and get it rebuilt. This way you could go a bit crazy and have something a bit special and it might still cost less than buying a good car to destroy!!

I think you have good ideas about what you want. You are just not implementing them very well. Buying a good car with low miles and taking it apart is just the thinking of a mad man (or an idiot!!) Sorry Jonny got to say it you would be a fool to buy a whole car!!

Or buy an old 3-litre and have it professionally rebuilt with strengthened internals to suit the supercharger.

m54b30 internals are strong enough for almost all supercharger kits.
My advice is: don't open up the bottom end if you don't have to
With different internals you get the pain of having to hone the cilinders etc etc. I've seen lots of professionals making a mess of that....
If it runs, it runs. The bottom end of the m54 is extremely reliable. One of the most reliable ones bmw has ever made.

The only advice for supercharging the z4 and installing a new engine is: try to convert it to ms43. Not easy but you may find companies who have done so.

You've got to hand it to JE, he's very good at starting threads that make people repeat all the things they've said in all his previous threads on the same subject - and, as this one is about something he's thinking of for next year, once this thread dies there's still time for him to start another dozen on the same subject and get people posting the same stuff all over again

That sounds like a LOT of money!..... have you considered looking into what it would take to transplant a V10 M5 engine into the car?...

Jonny, you know that every single external panel on the Z4 is removable bar the A pillars right? So why not buy a decent silver 3.0si or //M and transfer over all your freshly painted bits? By the time you've done the engine/gearbox/diff/driveshafts etc you pretty much have none of your original "baby" left anyway. All of your interior mods should be simple to swap over as well.

Totally agree, would be a massive waste of money.

Wiring loom, ancillaries, manifolds, water hoses, engine mounts? front crossmember? Numerous brackets and clips...

Like I said, it's a lot easier if you know you've got all the parts you need ahead of time. Here's one I prepared earlier (Nissan Skyline GTR engine in 200SX):

Yeah but standalone ECU and uprated parts like headers and engine mounts would surly be cheaper.

To be honest i wont be commenting on this any more!! Its Fing crazy Jonny you would be a mad man to do this. The cash you have spent so far you could have brought a very nice fast new car. I dont get the point of what you doing at all.

You cant 'just swap an engine'.
You have to deal with the ews first....
(when you buy a car you know you have that matched too, but it's still a big job).

What everyone is trying to tell you is that swapping all those other bits will be easier, cheaper and more reliable than paying for a complete drivetrain swap! You'd be able to do the majority of the work yourself and save a fortune in labour charges

Fitting the bits from the donor car to your current car would mean that you'd be able to sell it as a decent (unmodified) 2L car. I think you're kidding yourself if you think that you could move the drivetrain from your 2L into a donor 3L car and sell it on - you're not DIY-ing it so it would probably cost more to do the work than you'd be able to sell the car for - that's assuming you could find a buyer as I doubt if there are many people that would entertain buying a car that had been barstardised to that extent.

But you don't want to hear that, even though the only bit you'll have left of the original car is the VIN - so good luck with it.

What your doing is taking a perfectly good car and basically ruining it

Buy and run a second car with an ESS if you want more power, would be absolutely foolish to do an engine swap on a one owner car that you have owned from new, makes no sense either logically or financially given how cheap you can pick these up for now.

If your going to all that trouble, why not go S54 and get 500+bhp with relative ease? Won't cost you a great deal more.

Also have you considered the resale value of your car, won't be at all easy to shift on when you get bored? And you need to be careful which doner car you buy, its not going to be easy to find a low miler that's been lovingly cared for in the way your previous engine will have been. Absolute minefield if you ask me, but good luck either way.

I couldnt destroy a donner Z4M

But you could an M3

S54 with custom stacks and Pro coils like Nitrons would be my route if I had a big budget. that engine sounds like a buffalo making love to 4 goats https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3C-AlL3lQA

I've got a sneaking suspicion that unless your a registered trader you can't buy a cat C car.

Ignoring the obvious elephant that your car will no longer be the original car you like to say it was or its cheaper sell or buy an //m or get a v10 blah blah blah

The way I see it you have 2 choices. Assuming you are doing the work yourself

Buying the donor is a good idea you will have everything you need. But don't bother with the 2.0 transplant just take what you need and sell the big pile of spare bits on. Carefully stripping the donor will give lots if bits to make a little money back. Just thinking on now roof roof motor doors interior seats stereo steering wheel dash body panels 2.0 engine gearbox drive train brakes axles etc. this stuff will take up a massive amount of space you will have to be meticulous about how you strip them. You will have to deal with eBay/buyers/ stupid questions and all the shite that it entails and just to cap it all off you will end up with a big pile of crap that you will need to dispose of. Having done something similar I don't think it's worth it. But you argument about it all being there is reasonably valid.

Second choice is sack off the idea of a donor amd just buy the bits If you just source the parts by say approaching a breaker and say I want Xxxx then you won't have the trouble. Just make a list of what you need and get it but be prepared to be continually buying the bits you don't know you need then the bits you decide to replace then the bits you want reconditioning and then all the other little bits and bobs that you don't know you need yet.

Alternatively getting someone to do all this for you then let them do all the hard work. Who cares. Just agree a price give them your car and wait for them to come back to you. Hopefully they won't f**k it and it will cost you less than a small countries GDP

Johnny you know I love you but I can't stand it any more, its's donor not donner.

Beat me to it - all I can think about this thread is kebabs. Called Donna

Engine, drive chain and gearbox plus bits. Buy one that's written off, seriously. And PM Stevie.w as suggested he has the lot
