whats the size of the list got to do with anything... I replied specifically to people saying you cant get a more powerful, cheaper car than the M...

I don't have anything against the car (I nearly bought one, and obviously I have the Z4 anyway), just trying to educate and open the eyes of some rather naive sounding owners... certainly nothing elitist or show off about the car or them. (IMO)

it's nice to see owners so passionate about their choice of car mind you, but they need to understand where it fits in within the grand scheme of things...otherwise they just sound... well... silly... ;)

I think £10k for a well cared for and maintained roadster with the performance of the M is exceptional in the grand scheme of things.

Bang for buck I think it's pretty much as good as your going to get.

I'd like to also say an e34 M5, but I won't as they take a lot more looking after than any of those above.
 
There's a nerve been hit there... The Z4m for the money and quality is an amazing car. The z4 is ok but it's all down to what you can afford.. Loads of cars out there but apart from a m3 what else could you get for the coins...

I think it's a bargain for what it can do :-) when your pushing on...

I was in my mates r8 last week which felt more special but it was 117k new...

M5's. in all forms are less reliable... Different car
E39 Alpina .... Different car but for the older man
E38 750 .... Uba large limo. For a much older man lol

M3.e46 in manual form seal grey with red leather is a nice place to be :-).. But isn't a 2 seater...

Xk new shape, old man car but I'm getting older lol
 
I dont think there are many BMW's that are quicker than a Z4M for the money..

E39 M5 is close.....But they are huge,thirsty and would get anihilated on anything but a straight road. And they are old...
E46 M3 is a good car, but would you have one with the rot and chassis issues ?

Caterham ??? Please!......Ok for an afternoon of tracking,but useless at anything else..

I still cant think of a car that has speed/reliability for price/age of the Z4M....
 
Popey, I think you had a great buy there mate and with that mileage I think you've got 5 years in it no problem.. Mines on 64 but feels solid squeak free and fast :-)...

I wont be putting many miles on her and I was aiming for dry use only. However having a hardtop and maybe a chance in circumstances she may become a DD. However she will always have a good coat of wax on and want for nothing when it comes to maintenance and servicing.

Good to hear still going strong at 60k+, just getting run in ;) :driving:

This was my concern, great value for money, but the potential subframe issues were too much for me.

Can't think of much that would could be used as a sensible DD and beat the ///M for performance.

Great value for money.

Every test drive I had in an M3 vert or saloon the guy tried to kill me lol. Excellent brakes on most of them lol

I'm planning on running mine into the ground, when the engine explodes after doing 250000 miles I'll fit a v8 or v10

We put £30 in fuel a week.
Tax is covered by £10
Insurance is £6.50

The car was bought just having been serviced and with full MOT... Recent brakes and has brand new tyres.


I dont forsee any expenditure soon.....Its not an expensive car to run.

My 3.0si coupe in comparison..

£25 in fuel
£6 to tax
£5 to insure.

So...£10 a week saving.




Have i missed this list of more powerful/better fun/cheaper cars for the money ?? :poke:

I personally don't think they are cheap (unless I'm poor)...

As an example I've just paid: (not showing my big spuds)

425 for an inspection 1
2200 for rims and tyres
40 for mot
125 for a new battery
500 tax
500 insurance

I spend 300 to 400 on petrol each month.

My wife and everybody who knows thinks I'm mental. So this year the car will cost me 8k, or around £600 a month - more than my mortgage - for a 5 year old second hand car. Agreed tyres and batteries don't need replacing each year but if used daily something probably will.

I could walk into a bmw garage and leave with a new M3 for the same cash :cry:

The average wage in the uk is 16k, tell someone on 16k what they cost - see if they think its cheap. :D
 
Nope..

It does the daily commute to and from work....And gets used to pop into the local town at weekends.

Its currently averaging a very healthy 23.8mpg.....
 
Merrsh1, the averge UK wage for someone in full time employment is £26k... But your point is still well made.

£30 a week in fuel is half a tank of fuel... I get through more than that a week using it daily :?

Just discussed this with the wife and told her my petrol spend - she now not talking to me. :D
