While looking at the new Z4 today, I had a long chat with a salesperson at one of my local dealers.
He seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about his things, and had a lot of second hand information about the Z4 as well as other matters.

According to him, he just came from BMW Germany and he said they had confirmed to him that there will be an M version.
No further details are available. I just hope he's right ...
. . . and that I can say to you I TOLD YA!!

I guess he can say pretty much anything since it does not make BMW responsible in any way. It's better to say that there will be an M than to outright say that there won't be one. My salesperson who
is also a very experienced BMW employee at my local dealership does not believe there will be an M version.

Sounds like the same story we heard when the E85 came out.
I believe there is an M of everycar in the showroom right now except the 7 series so that should be the answer. AS long as BMW thinks it will sell one more car they will design it!!

Of course there will be an M version. The way BMW is slapping M badges (thank you marketing) on the model lines, there is no doubt that sooner or later there will be an M for the Z.

It seems to me if they are going after the SLK market they might need a rocking chair instead of an M

The Alpina version will be interesting. They tuned the 35i engine up to 340 or 360 BHP in their 3 series so I would expect the same. in their roadster.

The guy I spoke to seemed very knowledgable and he said it's not been "officially" confirmed ;)

my salesperson when i got down today told me there are plans to get the M3s V8 in it, there is enough room in the engine bay. also mentioned with rules getting stricter regarding carbon emissions, it night be sooner than expected. that would be an interesting car. fingers crossed.

The salesperson I spoke to mentioned the M3 V8 and the space issue (i.e. there's not an issue) as well ...

Seems like this rumor is getting confirmed from different persons.

Apparently this was confirmed at some event or another the other day... not sure of the details though.
