Looks like Virgin are keeping their promise about boosting internet speeds...

Seems to be stepped changes though as my upload speed hasn't increased yet...
 
Perry did you get any intermittent service interruptions whilst you were being upgraded? Our area is about to move to 150mb as well but the normally very reliable Virgin Media service has started to become very unreliable and they are telling me it's to do with the upgrade work.
 
Practically - where do you actually see or feel this benifit? I mean - web pages can only load as fast as their upload speed etc etc
 
The benefit comes when you have multiple devices using that bandwidth all accessing different content - so a Sky box, a tablet, a PC and a games console all doing different things but experiencing no loss in performance. You're right that you can only get content as fast as the servers can deliver it, but with so many huge data centres and so much caching and distribution networking within the operators' wide area networks nowadays the 'head-end' is not really a problem.

Our Virgin internet has been hit and miss for a few weeks now. never had any problems until this and you can guarantee its down when you want to use it.
Saying that its been ok the last few days.

Downloading large files i.e 10gb takes minutes rather than hours on my Virgin 100mb.
For casual users who do only a bit of web browsing the benefits are obviously not that great.

Our BB link has been very stable recently, although we did have a bit of disruption during the last set of BB speed increases - perhaps they made all the necessary changes (in this area) to allow higher speeds last time and now they just have to 'open the tap' a bit more :)
 
20 - 30 Mb/s with BT Infinity typically. Quite honestly I find this fast enough, it's very rare that I download large files.
 
Proper jealous of your upload speeds. We get around 6 download but our upload is pitiful. Strangled by BT apparently.

I regularly pull down some huge (8GB+) data files - I did a test this morning and was achieving a stable 20MB/sec and dragged an 8GB test file down in roughly 7 mins... which was nice :D

My upload speed should be increasing soon as well, Virgin usually operate on a 10:1 ratio so upload should be increasing to 15Mb in the near future :)

There are no download caps or peak-time traffic management on the fastest packages and I think they've removed them on the slower packages but retained the traffic management on uploads only
