It's destroying my life.

Err no...didn't you read my link? All would be the same torque though.

You really need a new screw and washer, then torque it up properly. I guess you could try just torquing it up to see what happens........

"After May 2006 the nut was welded to the new bracket instead. It suggests installing a new screw/bolt and torque up to 56nm + 105 degrees + or - 15 degrees. Screw and washer 07 11 9 906 010"

Sorry, I should point out we had a look under there at lunchtime and I did read your link!! However, contrary to expectations it is the bolt which is welded in place, not the nut.

Sorry for confusion.

That's weird if its a 2007 produced car. There should be a sticker near the left strut mount tower in the engine bay that says Month and year of make.

You are right then, just tighten the nut to 41nm. :D

Great advice on the tightening and please don't just decide to 'nip them up a bit more to be safe'.

Will almost certainly lead to stretched fixings or a failure of the mount.
Seen too many sheared off

I will double check again when I get home from work! I was surprised also!! Also going to hunt for the sticker!

I will let you know how I get on....a colleague is lending me his torque wrench as my tools are a tad old fashioned....

Fixing it Monday hopefully - will keep thread updated. Nothing worse than a thread with no outcome.

Meanwhile - still creaking. I've actually taken to using the wife's Volvo!!!

ARB bushes. you wont really see how worn they are on the car, you have to take them off. A couple of bolts, but a pain to get at. Only a couple of quid for new ones. Ive seen bushes in good nick, but the bars themselves can be worn away so badly it has to be replaced. Probably not too bad at your 60K odd miles.

I am fairly sure these were picked up and replaced through the inspection I had before I bought the car, so would be surprised if it was this? Let me double check paperwork though.

About to torque up under the bonnet, update to follow...

Just torqued the nuts on the strut braces up to 41nm.

It gives me great pleasure to announce....that the noise has subsided!!!

Thank you all so much for your help.

In fact - it's the quietest it's ever been in terms of suspension noise!!!

I like an easy fix. I love it when that easy fix is free!

I also think this might be the first time I've ever fixed something!!
