Hi All,

Another little thing on my car (Im paranoid like the rest of us I think) is only what can be described as a buzzing sound between 1500-2500 rpm and only happens when pulling off or accelerating through the gears (not heavily)

I took out and cleaned the flappy thing in the engine (cant remember the name, someone will tell me) but the noise still is there and is getting louder... but then again I am listening for it more now.

Apparently the exhaust and all heat shields are tight so what else could it be? Anyone else had this?

what size engine do you have?

a shot in the dark but when i installed the sound generator it used to make a 'buzzing' sound as it virbrated against the mount. if you have had it removed for any work lately just check that it is on right and tight.

like i said its a shot in the dark but it sounds similar

Im not sure if you have one but if you do the best way to find it is.

looking at the engine from the front it is mounted behing the DISA vavle, kind of clipped to the side of the engine. look at the air intake pipe that goes into the engine and it should branch off from there.

you can see the branch circled and the sound generator clipped to the side of the engine cover just to the left of the strut

Thanks for that Rudd but It seems I dont have one. I think it may of been fitted with one previously though as ther is a groove cut out of the engine cover probably about 3-4mil deep and 1.5inch long.

Anybody else any ideas?

Check the firewall braces where they meet in the middle (between the wipers). These car go - they may be a little loose and vibrating at certain revs.

The sound generator wasn't standard on the 2.5SE, it is prepped the same as the 3.0 - which has it as standard.

Have you checked the engine cover? Seem's odd that it is only happening under load.

Yes checked both of these. Just taken the engine covers off and gone round the village.. Still the same.

Tightened all brace bolts up a few days ago so still stuck really??

Well I think it sounds like a heatshield vibration but my local Indy cant find anything loose and because it only happens under load its near on impossible to find it for obvious reasons.

I have tried to get a clip of it but the wind noise always overpowers the microphone on my Iphone.

Obviously not a common fault then!

Only other thing I can think it to check the air box - pop the top off and check the filter and fixings are all seated properly and there's no play anywhere.

Check your cross brace members closest to the wheel well. I actually had one break on me. It wasn't a buzzing sound that it made when it broke, but its worth a look.

Sure it's not just transmission whine?

Its definitely not transmission whine, its more of a short 2-3 second definate buzz sound. Exactly like a angry wasp in a jam jar only louder...

UPDATE

I have just had the car up in the air and had a good poke about. The only thing I could find on the whole exhaust/heatshield system was 1 bolt missing from the rear heatshield above the back box. I havnt had the time to drive it yet but will see if thats solved the problem later on.

Cheers for the help guys.
