Well, I traded my Z4 in yesterday to the same dealer I bought it from almost 2 years ago. It has been huge fun and have enjoyed this forum - a lot of great and very knowledgeable people.

I picked up a 130i LE (a limited run of 160 with lots of options) - I love it, same engine as my Z4 had. It is in a beautiful colour called carbon black which is normally an M only colour with 'lemon' leather... sounds crazy but looks great in real life. First thoughts are that it isn't quite as fast as the Z4 but feels a lot more chuckable and planted. If anything the exhaust is louder which is surprising.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll still read this forum - and I've got a couple of things to sell on the classifieds (as new ZHP gearknob, BMW Car Cover, set of perfect 108s....).
 
Congratulations, the 130i LE is gorgeous.

I've got a 123d myself and find http://www.babybmw.net as friendly & helpful for 1 Series owners as this place is for zeds. (I'm not associated with that site in any way)

Drop in some time and post some pics :thumbsup:

The paint is in incredible condition, the dealer thinks it had paint protection put on when new and whoever owned it really looked after it - almost mirror like quality.

How is the 123d? Hatch or coupe?
 
Sprainedmind - thats lovely. Le Mans blue was not an option for me as our 3 series is that colour and my wife and I thought it would like a little daft having the two cars in the same colour!

The coupe is a great little shape - the best of the 1 series - and a nice reference back to the old small BMWs (2002). I would like to try something with the 123d engine in it - we've got the 320d and whilst obviously a diesel - it is a great engine.

Thanks! I never got round to fitting the run flats you use Gannet - shame really as I was about to change tyres in a few months time and was going to go on your experience / recommendation. The 130 doesn't seem to suffer as much as the Z on the run flats its on.

Where abouts are you? I've always fancied a go in a 130i :driving:
 
Are the alloy wheels same as the ones on 320si E90 saloon, i.e. BMW Performance wheels? Not so sure about the chrome window surrounds though. Replace them with black matt or high gloss ones? :)
 
Most of the 130i owners on the 1 Series forum will point out that the normally aspirated 130 engine gives a purer response than the turbocharged 135 engine.

Most of the 135 owners will simply point to the outright performance in response.

I stay well out of it as my 1er's a diesel :cry:
 
Well - I was torn on the 135 vs 130 - I have driven the new Z4 with that engine and the softer throttle response was evident - but then so was the additional thrust.

At the end of the day though I could do this swap for very little cash exchange which was kinda nice - a decent 135 would have cost another £7 - £8K which I hadn't planned on spending. So that made the decision for me! I'm very happy with what I've got - there's always something better / faster!
 
Do like the lemon interior and I prefer the hatch to the coupe so unless there wasn't much in it in terms of cost, I wouldn't shell out a lot for a 135 either. As a low-cost change I think you've got a nice wee car there, a decent N/A engine driving the right wheels.

Where near Manchester - I wil be up there at the end of the week in Prestbury (near Maccesfield / Wilmslow) but not sure yet if I'll have the 130 with me.
