So, having a good blast home from work late last night - Heathrow to Lincs twice a week...
Was enjoying the roundabouts on the North Orbital along with a 66 plate 330i, an MX5 and Smart Roadster. By the 2nd roundabout, the Smart driver realised he had bought a peashooter to a gun party and gave up and the MX5 was also getting tired of going around the corners on its door handles, leaving me in the Zed and the 330i to have a play on the otherwise pretty empty roads...
The old Zed held up pretty well actually. He pulled away a little on the straights - and I won't exceed an indicated 85-90 on public roads, but on the corners and accelerating off the roundabouts I got him every time.
We pulled onto the A1M and after opening the taps through the Hatfield tunnel - because why wouldn't you, we both settled down to a cruise up to the Bedford roundabouts and did it all again.
Exiting the final roundabout, I saw the rear view mirror light up with something closing very rapidly. We were both trying really hard when this bloody Ferrari 458 went by, leaving us both for dust! It wasn't just the acceleration, it was the traction around and off the roundabout that was so damn impressive. I was not far off the limit - understeer in and oversteer out, but the 458 was just totally planted and the noise!!!
I have to say I think we were both well and truly humbled, but I guess if a £200K supercar couldn't do that, the driver would have been a little upset!
