Well, this feels odd.
Last few hours at work today before I take early retirement and head off to the pub at lunch time.
Loads of people offering to swap places :)

I’m definitely going to miss the banter and daily interactions
On the other hand, plenty of time now to clean the Zed (properly) and get out and about more. :driving:

A few other things planned:
Take up fishing again. First license since way back when the kids were young
Some DIY jobs to tackle. New patio first on the list
Volunteered for the local Blood Bike group
Oh and a football pitch to look after

I wonder how long it will be before I utter the immortal ‘I don’t know how I found time to go to work!’ 8)

Well done

Took me about a year to slow down and get used to retirement - you'll love it

Stay away from day time TV it'll stop you doing anything - in fact I didn't even go into the room with the TV during the day when I was at home on my own. Now my wife has retired there's definitely not enough time to do all the things we want to!

Stop the false smiles bear, we can see you hate that retirement lark :poke:

You will love it. So much more freedom and holidays so much cheaper. Except in September when all tho ‘old wrinklies’ like me want to go as soon as the kids are back in school. Enjoy it while you can because you don’t know what is round the next bend.

Congratulations and best of luck for the future I retired early Aged 56 6 years ago, dont miss work at all but do miss the banter. Get together with my old colleagues a couple of times a year but sad to say a couple didn’t survive retirement long so enjoy it while you can

Congratulations! As others have said it takes a while to settle into new routines and get used to the fact that you have more time. No doubt you will soon find things to fill it with but give it time - totally agree about day time TV unless its the world cup or tennis of course! I retired in March (aged 56) and am thoroughly enjoying it now. I had made a very long list of things to do but I've been surprised by how some things have become new passions (cycling and gardening) and its wonderful to be able to allow those to take as much time as they need rather than having to squeeze them in at weekends or after long days at work. Interesting that you volunteered for blood bikes - I used to work for the blood service. I'm still a blood donor - well platelets, on my 260th donation now!

Probably not long!

I stopped working in 2014 when I was 55 and don't miss it at all. :)

As people have said you just need to make the most of it, and it's great not to have to set an alarm clock.

Not the finest surf beach in England, but it is the one I first attempted to surf on. We used to stay at Durdle Door caravan park, every year, when the kids were nippers and we lived in Gosport. So as Mrs G is Thomas Hardy bookworm, we would always spend a day at Lyme and take a walk on the Cob. Happy memories. :D

Congratulations, I'm quite envious  I'm willing the next few years to pass so I can hopefully retire, I'm currently 53 and done just over 36 years at the same place, the earliest I can retire if 55 or I could take flexible retirement which is 18 months away or could wait until I've done 40 years by which time I think I will have maxed my pension scheme out which is a Local Gov't pension. If I can leave at 55 then I will, I've not been enjoyng my job for the past 2 years and feel quite miserable doing it these days. My father passed away whilst still working at 62 so the earlier I can retire the better.

Tim.

I am 62 and have worked since I was 16 and have always been in employment, and only once have taken more than 2 consecutive weeks holiday. My current job pays well and I must enjoy it - I am currently out of the house for 14 hours Monday through Friday, but never ever work at weekends.

The company I work for is going through (another) reorganisation soon and I have made it clear that if there are to be redundancies, then put me at the front of the queue! I am only really being greedy, because my pensions will keep me comfortable, but it would be nice to go with a pay-off!

It's at this time of life you really could use a crystal ball to see the next 15 years!

Thanks for all the good wishes and advice guys
I survived the leaving party and up bright and early :)

Day time TV definitely won't be a problem and I'm always pottering about doing something (can't sit still for long)
Like a few of you have said I'm looking forward to taking my time and not having to squeezing jobs in at night or at week-ends
My wife has finished as well

We live on the edge of the Lake District (20min drive) and to my shame haven't really explored it
We tend to stay away because at week-ends its full of you guys :D
So looking forward to some mid-week walks

One of my leaving presents was a 'Triple Super Car Blast' at Oulton Park. Has anyone experienced these days and got any advice?

I was given an Aston Martin experience day when I retired, I’m yet to book it up though

Hi Smartbear
With my package I can choose 3 cars from the list below (assuming they are all available on the day)
You get 3 miles in each
Lambo Galliardo, Ferrari 360 or 430, Aston Martin DB9 or V8 Vantage, Ariel Atom, Audi R8, Nissan GTR, Porche 911, and a BMW i8

My thinking at the moment is Lambo, Ferrari. Then either Aston or Atom
I think it will be all over far too quick :(
