Itchy feet or should I stick?

OK guys and girls, so this has been playing on my mind for a while.

I have a 2007 E85 2.5i SE - absolutely mint, low mileage, stratos grey and red leather. Nothing wrong with it at all. I know the car, I know what it's had done and I have a feeling that it's 'one of the good ones'. And I love being able to drop the roof in the summer (or winter for that matter!).

However. I have itchy feet...

Now, I have three ideas...
1) Swap the zed for another zed, but a higher spec one (maybe a 2.5si Sport) of similar age
2) Keep this one with a view to save up and buy a tea tray with an engine (like an Elise or Exige in the next few years). Only problem here is I need a reasonable sized boot. I suppose an old Golf or Polo too would suffice....
3) Keep this one as it is until it dies.

I like the E89, but the boot isn't big enough for me. I can fit my electric drum kit in the E85, and there's no chance it'd go in an E89...

Whatever it is, needs to be 55 plate or newer so I can put my plate on it....

I would say scratch your feet and keep what you have, it's clear you think a lot about the car.
Good luck either way.
 
IMHO I would rule out Option 1 - not enough difference in Spec to warrant the cost of changing and you won't know what you're getting - may be worth changing if you go to a newer 3.0 Si ( you will notice the increase in power ! )

If ,as I suspect ,your car is a weekend toy then Option 2 is worth considering - any Lotus is just outrageous in the nicest way - a true sports car that sticks to the road like a go-kart :D or if you want something cheaper dare I suggest a Boxster but make sure it's a 3.2 S


Now you've got the itch Option 3 is really a non starter :evil:
 
Actually it's a daily driver - a short 5 mile commute each way...which rules out a Porsche.

The other half is an avid Porsche enthusiast and has had a fair few - they're not really suited to short commutes. Not to mention feeling like a caged animal, the engines also don't take kindly to not being thrashed or warmed up properly....

Perhaps I have itchy feet because the sun's out? Or because it's a bank holiday? :roll:

2007 2.5i Se ? :? Thought after 06 they were all 2.5 Si ?

Not sure if this helps you RE space but the E89 boot is ok if you stow the roof shelf away

2.0i, 2.5i, 2.5si, 3.0si all available in SE or Sport trim.

Hey always happy to learn new tricks :oops: i always thought that all facelift 2.5s & 3.0s were either Si Se or Si Sport :? Never realised there was 2.5i non Si with facelift fogs , clear,s & rears :?
Although now mentioned i think Number5s winter "flipper" 2.5 may have been one such example
 
For sure is an i SE ;-) definitely not sport or SI - I'm yearning after toys and more oomph ;-)

As for boot space on the E89...I've only seen pictures with the shelf present(I think) - how does it compare with the E85 for overall size?

Incidentally, I'm sure I've seen you can get through loading on the E89...useful for skis (another hobby)... Don't laugh - how about roof racks??
 
Roof racks are probably a possible ? Boot space with roof shelf up

OP, it sounds to me like you need an E86!

Loads of boot space, and engine is either 3.0Si or M!

It was meant in jest hence the smilies , the OP currently having a roadster & the suggestion of a coupe :wink:

I was being sarcastic, soh clearly not your strong point either.

I don't understand the whole roadster vs coupe thing on here. Many with roadsters seem to like making coupes the butt of jokes but much less so the other way. They do different things, one gives you an open top experience which is fun (I had a supercharged Eunos in the past) and the other is a bit sharper to drive. The e89 goes backwards for driver involvement but in return is more refined, just depends what you want. The OP didn't list open top as a criteria and is considering coupes, plus the boot seems quite important...
 
I have to admit I've always liked the zed coupes, but have my reservations. I do rather like having a rag top (posing value) but a tin top is also good. We also have a 996 911 in the fleet, so a zed coupe might not cut the tin top mustard I fear...

Today I actually drove a 1999 MX5 1.8 S and was very impressed. Now I'm having ideas about one of those but stripped out and properly sorted.... Such a dilemma !!!
