It`s official, we drive hairdresser cars

To be fair to the ignorant moron.
The z4m shares alot of its components with the e46 m3.

Yiu could take a z4 and make jt similiar to a z4m by using parts of an m3 e46

A neighbour suggested I should have bought a car like his when I bought my first 3.0 E85
He has a little mx3 !

I know a few on here have had them and enjoyed them - but how many have gone back to them?

Sounds like your neighbour is a right A Hole. What sort of person walks up to someone who has just bought a new car and effectively says "hey you have screwed up there, you should have bought one of these instead like me!"
There not even close in comparison, the mx3 is front wheel drive, not a convertible and gutless. Not to mention it was out of production at least 5 years before the Z4 came along.

So what did he use to justify his point of view?

MX3 is are re-jigged Mazda 323, it floats his boat but he's obviously jealous of your Z :)

Our neighbour popped his head over the fence when I got the Z and said " mid life crisis? " yes it must be I said :P
I just noticed they now have a cabriolet (not a roadster) in the form of a Ford focus CC, obviously not a mid life crisis then

Sorry - I've mislead you - the fella has an MX5
But whichever, I don't think it's comparable with a Z4

I used to work in a self-storage warehouse - the guy we used to recommend for removals came into a bit of money from his parents' estate (sadly).

He told me he was thinking of buying a 911 - fair play I thought. I cashed a pension and got my Z4C - he called it a hairdresser car, so I asked where his 911 was. It seems he was thinking of a convertible, and possibly an auto!! Told him in no uncertain terms he was the hairdresser! AFAIK he is still driving his diesel Insignia estate - a*shole!

But I did see a good sticker on an MX5 the other day - "No hairdresser tools stored in this car overnight" - had to laugh!
