Issues with speakers/head unit

Hey- ive a December 2009 E89 2.3 - had dreadful issues with the speakers when using ipod and cd. Visited the dealer eight times who state there is a known problem but unable to fix. The first really annoying issue is if the music is played loud, the system will reduce the sound to apparently protect the speakers. Wost of all, if i use my ipod through the aux connector or play a cd, all speakers sound like your in a wind tunnel when the volume is turned up high....i tried my ex wifes and hers was fine. The dealer tried one, all ok, then applied a software update, and then the speakers were much akin to mine. They stated once the update is installed, it cannot be reversed. Id be really interested if anyone else has this issue and if any dealers were able to cure the distorted bass. Many thanks

Welcome to the Forum. Never heard of this issue and hopefully someone can help BUT any update should surely improve things not make it worse. Your still under warranty so keep at the dealer if not BMW direct. Good luck.

..cheers Alan, yeah...lol, i thought updates should improve it too ....ive just found out from a lad i know at BMW that bass issues are well know as all dealers had email note about it in May. Apparently three series are prone too.....ill let you know how i get on......Cheers

Well, officially had BMW's final response which was "turn the bass down- its up too loud and you're creating the fault" BMW Customer Services once again s*tting...yes sitting, on the fence!!! Blamed it on my ipod(its never hurt anyone nevermind my motor) however problem still presents when using a CD and when asked how i created that fault, their answer "urhhhh, don't know" hasten to add Mr Hodsons, local solicitor, now rejecting the car on my behalf.... lets hope BMW are not repeating the mistakes Rover over made..namely to ignore the hand that feeds them !!!

My bass got muddy-one reprogram (for another problem, but you have to apply all updates when you start), didn't fix it. Took it back in, new speaker--didn't fix it so new amp. Sounds much better. Glad it happened under warranty as I don't fancy buying a Carver amp! ouch
