same here, my car was behaving like a 100 quid banger when the battery died.... lights flashing, everything resetting, EML lights, ABS lights, all gone when new battery in place.
id go oem parts if possible... I've had so many cheap pattern parts from euro car parts on some of them are really s**t. Car like a pina deserves top quality. Id guess stock is bosch??
Phil; is saying the alternator is different from other BMW's, and it has a Alpina part number on it..which is worrying..as it will not be cheap to replace!
He is trying to repair it - suggested the Bosh part ECP quoted will be a standard 3L z4 alternator..
So i called ECP - they said this is not the correct part for my Alpina...glad i called again!
I had similar issues with the starter motor for my RS. - Is it Alpina ? Is it standard ?
I went for a standard 3.0L and it works perfectly, so I'd bet the Alternator is the same.
Dropped my car off Monday 14th December, said it should be ready by Wednesday... (3 days)
Car was still not ready the following Monday - Tuesday had a leg opp..
Ended up collecting my car yesterday!
He had issues with the alternator - said it had a alpina part number and that was odd..in the end discovered it is a standard alternator just has a different plug and cover...why it took so long, i have no idea...
Total bill was £430! £170 for a new alternator, + £170 odd labor (2.5 hours) + another gasket he replaced (possible cause of the oil leak since the vanos work)..
2.5 hours...but that also included the rethreading of a bolt i snapped + a gaskit install
Think time wise its okay I think.. Just took 3 weeks.
Also spent £620 on Vanos seals few weeks before...it was after this I noticed the oil leak..then broke the nut when I blew my alternator cleaning the oil in the engine..
