Issue with my Z4's navigation

The original PDF I saw it was mounted behind the instrument panel though srhutch.

oh, I clipped mine just on the metal clip which runs just on the right of the vent. Magnetic is great :D

I thought the OEM was at that time all the way on the right of the instruments though.

From memory the PDF wasnt that clear I know it showed it behind the instrument panel but dont think it was that specific, will have to find the PDF now (Think you gave it to me in the first place) :D

This is interesting I've had this problem on a 2007 Z4M (built Q3 2006). The dealer did the battery on/off bit and reprogrammed the satnav. Still get it occasionally. I thought it might be Radar interference from the military aircraft factory down the road. If replacement of the antenna with an aftermarket one sorts it I'm in! It's not clear to me where it plugs in - is it in the back of the DVD player between the seats or back of the headunit or screen in the dashboard/front bulkhead.

Ian I have only every used an antenna from ebays since retrofitting Nav last year, cant confirm it will fix your problem, but for a tenner got to be worth a try. The unit plugs into the back of the DVD drive and OEM antenna is located behind instrument panel, if you want to keep it like this you will need to esnure you get one with 5m lead, otherwise leave the OEM one where it is and locate the replacement near the rear bulkhead, just ensure reception is OK.

Remove the carpet against the back of the boot (bulkhead) and you can get access through there. Two plastic screw type clips either side IIRC just unscrew and you can lifgt the carpet out of the way.

so i was about to go and install the antenna you suggested and i think my soft top needs to be up to get the carpet out the way? am i correct or do i just need to pull harder? thought i'd ask first before taking my hardtop off...

Pulled my carpet up from the bottom, you wont do it from the top as it is trapped under some of the hood fittings, 2 plastic fixings either side need to be removed then you might have to remove the floor plate (cant remember) but then should be able to get access from one side of the other.

ok done the carpet part thanks. now i'm not sure if it's different with your model or because you did a retrofit, but the back metal panel only has a whole where the cd changer would be.

is yours the same?

anyone got a pic of the back of the MK4 so i can at least try to do some guess work?

EDIT: ok is this it.... the single wire on the right of the pic? how am i supposed to get to that?? tell me i don't have to take the whole centre console out!!

Peddy: Mines the same as that. I couldn't reach up for the cable nor feel anything.

Mines kinda intermittent now. Seems almost like every other drive it works... :headbang: :headbang:

For some reason I think I remember reading that the actual antenna part of it connects behind the gauges to a cable that runs to the back?

plus that stupid string thingy doesn't allow you to lift the carpet up! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

why couldn't BMW just make the whole bigger to see the back of the nav too or even better make the centre console a few centimeters bigger!!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Mine will be the same, but of course as I fitted the drive at the same time I did it all from the front.

I would be surprised if the antenna could be detached from the other end, but it maybe worth a look, if you remove the central air vent and headunit, using a torch you should be able to see the antenna behind the instrument panel.

The only other option would be to remove the central panel in the cabin, which isnt all that hard to do so toy can pull out the DVD drive to get to the antenna. I have some good instructions that PVR made if you need them.

Yes please... i'll end up doing this on a sunday afternoon and might as well install an intravee and/or cd changer.

how long do you think it'll take to open it all up? i'm a novice.

peddy I would allow a couple of hours to do the whole job, I saved the pages from the website that PVR posted on, the site is no longer available (not z4um) but I can email them to you, I'm sure PVR wont mind as he is a very nice chap.

PM your email address and I will email them thorugh.

I had SAT communication issues took it to the dealer today and they are replacing my navigation computer for the second time in 1 year... Anyone having these issues? My Z4 is a 2007 3.0si

Only had a replacement in my X5 once, never multiple ones.

What is the issue?
