Issue with millage?

Hi All,

As yet not made a purchase but am looking for a "sunny day" only car and not a daily driver. Have seen a 2.2 2005 cheap but it has done 168k.

Before I go look I wanted to know if anyone can confirm whether this millage is an issue with the 2.2 6 cyl or if it is a bullet proof engine if maintained well?

Cheers

not sure pal...the 3.0 and 2.5 are well regarded for putting up high mileage.... how much is it for sale for and how well its been maintained would be critical... put up a link to it and members can give a better opinion... engines are IL6 rather than V6

I assume we are talking about a Z4 - if so its a Straight 6 not V6. In answer to your question those engines are pretty bullet proof, however that's a huge mileage so I'd want a full and comprehensive Service History (and a competitive price )

Thank Mr Tourette, link is below.

these engines handle the mileage well if looked after, by the way its an inline 6 not a v6. If the car seem OK the mileage wouldn't put me off there's plenty of M54 engines with well over 200k going strong, I know a guy with a 330i that's on 220k myself

It could be worth a punt with a fresh service and 12 months mot, I just think you could possibly get something a bit better, such as this

The bigger the engine the more capable it is of handling high miles. The 2.2 is the entry level 6 cylinder so that it not in its favour but you will need to be looking at maintenance above and beyond that specified by BMW before considering. However unless it is costing beer money I wouldnt be considering anything at that mileage. Its a real gamble and you could end up with a dog of a car.

This^^^^^ once a car turns 100k you should be looking to annual oil changes... the 15000 interval is too long to go between oil changes... even at 3k budget i think you can do better than this particular zed

another example... this guy is taking offers... 3300 for a sub 100k 2.5?

Much as I'm an advocate of the 2.2 as it is the same block to all intents and purposes as the 2.5 and 3.0 I would say this is an unloved looking car- the wheels are after market and cheap looking- it has no leather (very rare!) and the badges on the side are wrongly placed.
